The Capital REI group, as mentioned by @Brandon L., is a great group and not for profit at all. It's just a community of people in the Northern Virginia area that are interested and experienced in real estate investing. Many other REIs can be VERY salesy.... this one is an exception and is very good.  I'd encourage you to come out for it.   This group even pulls people from DC, Maryland, and other areas of Virginia. 

Our Brokerage, Customer Realty, also hosts a number of free investor focused events- we have one on the 13th of this month that is taught by Raj Tamang of Green Valley Custom Home Builders.  It's going to cover  How to Understand a Home from a Structural Perspective and How to Understand Construction Estimates.  I've seen his presentation and it looks very very good!!
