Hmmm, interesting. Thank you both for the replies. Yes, the Barney Rubble front yard will be going. Also, I failed to mention that this is in Salt Lake City, though one could glean from my profile that that's the deal. The nandinas look nice; I'll find out how they will do in the arid high desert.
When you say whitewash, are you two talking about painting the brick? I know many frown upon such a thing on this forum (I've been stalking here for a while now).
Yes, a duplex. The white door is new; we'll be painting it when the weather gets warm. Probably bright orange but subject to change. We are replacing the other door with the same white door, but probably doing something like bright blue for differentiation. Too funky?
I also failed to mention, but is probably obvious...the goal is to rent these units as highly as is possible, particularly so that when we refinance, the appraisal is glowing. Then on to the next purchase.
Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the roofline. We're new.
Yes, the shingle is ugly and also looks rather dilapidated. I'll look into new ones. Black would probably help a lot.
I had the funky idea (I didn't pass it on to my spouse yet) of painting the house black, with black shingles, and white doors with white windows and trim. Super crazy?
I know what unfluted columns are but have no real idea where to look for them. Square? Round? One issue is that the carport is very narrow, and anything much thicker may begin to cause clearance issues with today's giant cars.
Thanks again for the replies.

So, what do you think? A true beauty, I know.
The inside is getting better. We're rehabbing. What I want to do is increase 'curb appeal'. A few options I'm considering:
1. Painting the brick
2. Pulling the shingles and replacing with siding or other
3. Stuccoing over the brick, and possibly the shingled area too (pulling shingles first, of course)
4. Landscaping (but not sure what to do with that yet
So, if you have ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks a bundle!
PS - I don't have a huge amount of money to spend on this. Let's pretend 10K or so.
