@Stephen Watt I had to take a 75-hour prelicensure course at a licensed school and pass a test the last day of class. Then I studied for a few more months and took the state license examination. I'm not 100% sure how CA works though, might be a little different for you.

I learned a lot from it and have no regrets. I think even if you don't get the RE license the prelicensure course is a good intro to your state RE laws.

PLUS, you get to meet people who have the same interest as you.

The more you learn, the more you'll earn down the road.. At least that's the way I see it! Best of luck!

Hi @Madeline D. , welcome to BP!

I am a fan of house hacking (living in one and renting the other) and feel that's a great idea.

I would get that pre-approval and afterward contact an agent. I feel like you're procrastinating too much. I think you should start the process and see what's out there, you don't have to buy a house right away.

But at least you are getting your feet wet and you're not on the sidelines wondering "what if".

This is a good quote from Benjamin Franklin “Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

I feel like next month is going to come around and you will postpone the whole thing again. If you ever get stuck during the process or have a question ask here, everyone here is extremely helpful :).

@David Da Silva

Welcome aboard man. I just passed the Real Estate exam on Thursday and in my personal opinion, I think it's a good idea to have an RE license. The more you know, the better you will be.

Knowledge is power in my honest opinion!

Welcome @Kevin Pereyra !

I am in the same situation as you. 27, make pretty good money for my age and got nothing to show for (for the most part). Like you, I am not financially literate(YET)..... unfortunately.

I've started using Mint, to try and help myself budget and pay off debt.

I'm in the process of getting my real estate license so I can hopefully open some doors!

One book I recommend you to read is "The One Thing". I'm not completely finished yet.... but it's really good.

Also, thanks, @Ro Maga for the recommendations I will check these out myself!

@Nirzhar Kar , after you pass the pre license class you have 1 year to take the RE exam to get licensed. You can take as long as you want (within the 1 year) to take the exam.

Here are the licensed RE schools in NJ:

Best of luck!

Hi Warren Rappleyea welcome to BP. I am also a marketing professional but only internet marketing. I also joined this website hoping to learn as much as I can on RE. I recommend you listen to the podcasts and read the blogs.
