One possibility is cash for keys; I wouldn’t send anything in writing, rather try door knocking.

She says she likes them.  She's doing the sales person course and she said she likes the condensed course, so she can take the exam more quickly.  She said it comes with a book and online tests and she likes how it's structured.

I appreciate the reply. I did look at Allied and Real Estate Express as well, but I went with a company that’s local who seems to provide a tailored approach with application assistance as well.

But I will definitely look at both programs again to see if they offer an additional exam prep material that’ll help me when I’m all done with these courses.

So most of the info you will never see again nor really need to know (such as some of the obscure title issues and deeds). I would just focus on the info that has relevance on what you will be focusing on (such residential sales). With that being said, there is a ton of base information within those courses that I would like all agents to have background knowledge on in the off chance that it comes up.

I like KaplanRE for the prep courses. They have a good online test taking site and accompanying videos. Either way it is tedious. My advise is after you have read the source material, take the practice test questions constantly until you are able to consistently get a passing score.

Once you have your license, CAR.org is a font of relevant information regarding real estate, most importantly I would focus on the Legal Live Webinars (there is a back cataloged in there). Also note that my "day job" is that I run operations for a team, so I tend to favor that side of the business. What the test does not teach you is how to actually sell real estate (prospecting, showing houses and such). For that, I would search for a good mentor.

Thank you for the reply. I will absolutely look into KaplanRE for study material.

Currently studying for the CA Broker Exam. No previous sales experience so I am taking all 8 classes required.

I did read the breakdown of the test on the CA website and I can see what the focus is on, but how relevant is the material that I am currently studying?

I ask this because someone from the company I am signed up with said that  I shouldn’t take the classes whole heartedly as the exam is more about understanding how to answer the questions and the prep material is what I should focus on when I get there.

This leads me to my other questions for referrals to any prep companies people have had success with studying for the CA brokers exam - I would love to hear stories.

And lastly, I know the exam has changed this year, so things will be structured a little differently, but if anyone can shed light on strategies or information that may help me better prepare, I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance!

Typically you can obtain a letter from a HML. Please reach out if you need a referral.

Consider artificial turf. It may not be a bad alternative for the long run. It’s virtually 0 maintenance.

Do you mean the real estate salesperson's exam?  You can do that all online.  I have a friend doing it now.  If that's what you mean, let me know.  I can find out which one she's using.  They sent her the books, as I recall, but she takes her tests online.

In CA, you have to actually work as a real estate salesperson for a broker before you can become a broker yourself, as I understand it.  Unless you have a JD degree, then I think you can bypass most, if not all, requirements.

I meant what I said: I will be sitting in for the broker exam. I’m just trying to find an online company to complete all the classes necessary; I’m sure some are more user friendly than others.

Otherwise, there are specific qualification that need to met and I satisfy the requirements.

First, let me say that I was unaware that you no longer actually have to work as a salesperson.  They now offer more options, which is great.  I haven't checked the requirements in many years.

But, even though you meant what you said, I'm still confused.  I still don't understand what classes you think are required to take a broker exam, if you have already met all of the requirements to be allowed to take the brokers exam.

You said: "I'm just trying to find an online company to complete all the classes necessary."  I'm trying to figure out what you're referring to.  But, never mind.  Just trying to help.  Trying to help you keep from doing more than you need to.

There are general requirements and there are course requirements. The general requirement is the one that I have satisfied.

Applicants for a real estate broker license examination must also have successfully completed the following eight statutorily required college-level courses, which is what I’m trying to currently satisfy (hence my original question posed) and they are as follows:

  1. Real Estate Practice; and
  2. Legal Aspects of Real Estate; and
  3. Real Estate Finance; and
  4. Real Estate Appraisal; and
  5. Real Estate Economics or Accounting*; and
  6. Three courses from the following list:

    • Real Estate Principles
    • Business Law
    • Property Management
    • Escrow
    • Real Estate Office Administration
    • Mortgage Loan Brokering and Lending
    • Advanced Legal Aspects of Real Estate
    • Advanced Real Estate Finance
    • Advanced Real Estate Appraisal
    • Computer Applications in Real Estate
    • Common Interest Developments

Do you have any recommendations on online companies that can help me satisfy the course requirements?

Oh, I understand now.  I didn't realize that you needed extra classes, either. I thought you got all the education for the salesperson's license and brokers weren't required additional education, just experience.

So, I wasn't helpful at all.  Sorry about that.  But, I did learn something :-)  I will ask my friend if the online school she's using also has courses for brokers requirements.

I appreciate you going through the trouble and looking into things :)

Much appreciated!
