Post: Sewage smell when heat is on….HELP!!!

Hi all,

What could cause a sewer smell to come out of an air conditioning/HEAT vents? It seems to be related to when the heat is on which is all the time right now. I checked all the pipes and there are no visible water leaks that I can see.

The most confusing thing is that smell/odor is only in the basement vents/ducts, although the ducts run throughout the house.

I have been doing my research on the possible problems and this is what I am thinking……….. “Some HVAC contractors have a bad habit of connecting condensation lines to vents inside attic or to drains behind trap. Both of these installations are wrong, health hazard, against the Code and should be immediately corrected. When your central HVAC unit activates, it draws sewer gas into duct system and distributes it throughout the house.”

I am not sure who to call… a plumber or HVAC person.

Suggestions/ideas appreciated!!!

Thanks

Sorry folks...not liking the new format. I don't post a lot mostly read and do my research, but this format/text is NOT working for me.  I have not been reading alot because it is very hard on the eyes.

But  I still love BP!!

I will have to agree with @Alexander Mansi...even thou this is a Brooklyn discussion :)
