@Brandon Rush Hey Brandon, thanks for the response. That sounds like a good plan. I will listen to that episode.

For my first house I was planning on house hacking to save with a single family. I was going to do single family due to where I wanting to live will not cash flow easily. I want to move to Cali or San Diego. I was going to save with my house hack single family, to purchase a duplex in a cheaper state like Arkansas that will cash flow a lot easier. How does that sound?

Any constructive criticism or feedback on my plan is greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I have a VA loan and am saving to buy my first house. Saving to pay for the 2.3% processing VA loan fee. Although when saving, do you still invest into retirement and the stock market? Or just retirement? Or none?

Thank you for any insight.

@Stephen Stokes That makes sense. I had no clue how hard it is to cash flow a duplex in Austin. Learned a lot, thank you.

Is it easier to cash flow a house in Austin?

I am okay with a negative cash flow while living in, but I’m mainly worried about when I move out someday. I want to keep the property I buy and I want it to cash flow once I move out. So if I have to buy a house instead, house hack with a negative cash flow, but then when I move out its cash flows positively fully rented out I would be happy with that.

I want to move to Austin, Tx from Washington for a few reasons. I want to enjoy more sun, cheaper life style fresh out of college compared to Seattle, and I think for my first purchase using my VA loan I will get a better bang for my buck in Texas considering I have to live in whatever property I purchase with the VA loan.

@Jordan Moorhead Hi, thanks for the response. I need to buy a first property sometime to live in. I rather have negative cash flow than rent. Would it be a good idea to start with an house or a duplex to initially buy, despite being negative cash flow. Then my next property I won’t live in, focus on the cash flow? Is this normal to not cash flow the first property one lives in?

@Stephen Stokes thank you for the response. This leads me to my next question. Where is a good city to use my VA loan? I thought Austin would be a good place, but this has been enlightening why not.

@Artur A. Is Austin, Tx a good state that would cash flow?

I am looking at moving to Austin, Tx in a bit. To buy a duplex or triplex with my VA loan and house hack it. I have heard and found online Austin is a great place to invest but I'm not truly sure. Does anyone have any insight on how it is investing in Austin? Is the real estate too expensive to create sufficient cash flow? I want to live there and I currently live in Washington, any insight is very appreciated.

Thank you!

I want to invest in Real estate rental properties with my Va Loan, while investing in the stock market monthly and my Roth IRA. The thing I'm confused about is, what percent of my income do I put in where? How do I divide up my income in a smart way so I can at least invest a little bit in the market and retirement while investing in real estate?
