Post: Comparison of Fees Charged by Direct Booking Sites?

I'm not suggesting that Craigslist is a substitute for VRBO. I've never used Craigslist. There are alternative sites like Tripz, Bookings, etc. There are local STR sites in a lot of area that have gained traction. A lot of people have had success creating their own website and driving traffic there, although it is difficult to get any relevance with all the big guys.

A lot of people are increasingly unhappy with HA/VRBO and their ridiculous fees. I can’t imagine why anyone would give money away by advertising on Craigslist and then turn around and direct guest towards VRBO where it costs both guest and owner???

Check out “say no to vrbo service fee” group on Facebook. Lots of reasons to stop working with them and ideas for booking your place in less costly areas.

I say this as someone who’s used VRBO for multiple properties for 4 years. I’m just tired of them and will be fazing them out soon.

The house is worth over $1.1 million. There’s a fist of about $600k. The second is about $250k (which is in default). I’m paying $100k up front and then My lease is the monthly mortgage. I have options to purchase for whatever the loan balance is at the time I close.

My thinking is, if I buy the $250k note for let’s say $200k, I essentially get an additional $50k discount when on the purchase of the house.

I would like to purchase a note for a specific property. I have never bought a note before. This is for a note in second position for a property I have a lease option on. The homeowner has not paid on this note for several years.

I wouldn’t consider this kind of investment if you can’t afford the payments on your own. While it may work out fine, there’s so many things that could happen. I own a few vacation rentals, but i wouldn’t do it if it could put my family in jeapordy.

That's funny. With Facebook groups, local REI forums, etc. I forgot I asked that question here. Anyways, still looking for input.

Thanks!

Does anyone use their home as a wedding venue? I am considering using a couple of my properties for wedding and other events. I'd like to get ideas of what people charge, what goes into it, etc., etc.

Is there a website template available for easily making your own website? Or does anyone have a web designer they could recommend?
