@Cynthia Veenendaal - I'm a real estate broker in the Austin area, and personally live in Leander so of course I may be a tad bit biased but we love it here (Leander that is!).   Investing in Texas makes a lot more financial sense when you're living here and can also benefit from zero state income tax.

I'm happy to chat more with you about strategies and opportunities with multi-family.  Feel free to reach out if you'd like!

Love to see so many of you in the N-NW areas of Austin!  I'm in Leander as well...will be trying to get to the Investor Underground -- kids activities in the evenings restrict me somewhat with the meetups.  I'm a multi-family investor as well!

@Will Diepholz welcome!  You'll find so much valuable input here in the BP forums!!!  I'm based in Austin, TX and have rental property in Killeen as well.  There are some great threads on both areas if you use the search function.  Feel free to reach out as you begin to solidify your investment strategy if you need anything - especially regarding those markets!

@Andrew W. and @Case Collett, I would highly recommend that you consider talking with Jim Reed (attorney) and Margaret Reed (CPA). They came to me highly recommended by over a handful of real estate professionals and I have been very pleased with my experiences! They are married-- Jim is a real estate attorney with Babb, Reed & Leak and Margaret is a CPA with Gruenbein & Reed -- both in Austin with offices off of Spicewood Springs (NW Austin). Jim helped talk me through my options as I was decided how I wanted to set up my business from a legal and liability standpoint (and yes...you can do series LLC's in Texas and that is what he recommended for me). He is extremely reputable, experienced and full of integrity. Margaret, the same -- and she works with a lot of brokers/agents/investors so is very well versed in real estate specific taxes and accounting. It would definitely be worth a call to them! You can google them or PM me and I can get you their contact info.

I would highly recommend JB Goodwin REALTORS in Austin.   They are the largest independent broker in the Austin area and have a very long, solid reputation in real estate.   They also are one of the Austin's "Top Workplaces" for several years running!  They were the brokerage that I started with when I got my license (I am a broker now and hold my license independently).   They have always been well known for their training, but in last few years that have made HUGE additions to what they offer their agents in terms of technology, etc.   They have INCREDIBLE training and mastery program that rivals any  "big box brokerage"...additionally they have a highly developed back-end CRM system that NO ONE in the Austin area is offering -- for free, to their agents.   One of the things I love about them as a new agent is that they provide everything you need to start up and be successful...no desk fees or monthly fees...they want to see you succeed, so they get paid only when you do!   Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I'd be happy to share my experiences!
