In Caymen there is no real estate taxes, and no capital gains taxes.

And?

I thought it was John D. Rockefeller who said that?

It was Rockefeller and I believe the quote is "Own nothing, control everything" not "owe nothing".

Some people seem to have very different views of freedom than I do. I can pretty much do whatever I want, whenever I want. I have never woken up in the morning and thought, damn, the bank owns me (or the government for that matter...and I was in the military). Do you guys actually sit around and think about how shackled you are?

I loved Ali Boone's point about not not caring about the bank...well said!

Investopedia also has a pretty good real estate dictionary.

Here is a glossary. It is not perfect but should be a good starting point for you.

Post: Cheap basement flooring options?

It really depends what you are planning to do with the rest of the basement. What are the comps telling you? As Steve said, if you are just trying to make it less "basement chamber" like, gray floors and painting the walls will go along way. This will make the basement more of a storage / laundry area. Do you plan on finishing out the wall as Steve asked?

Welcome to BP Collin. It is awesome that you have taken an interest in real estate investing at such a young age. Be careful with those expensive seminars, they can be a good way to set you back a lot of money and further delay your investing activities. Here is an article I wrote for the blog about Guru Programs.

There are a lot of resources available to you for free and a lot of them can be found right here on BP. Make sure you browse the forums and blogs and checkout the podcasts...all are filled with great info and advice.

If you haven't yet, check out the Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing. It is another free resource that will help you understand the various investment strategies and the basics. After you get through that you might have a better idea of what you want to do.

Good luck!
