Welcome to BP Caleb. Good call on taking some time to learn the fundamentals of real estate investing. Once you understand the basics you can start developing a plan based on what you have learned and your goals. Keep on learning and take this time to save some money so when you are ready you are in a financial position to get started. Good luck!

Alex,

From what I understand you will not have to wait 2 years, it is just that they will look back two years. When I left the service I got a new job, which did not restart my clock for my bank, but they looked at my salary at both jobs. They will likely put more emphasis on your new job since that will be your current salary (so it may hurt you borrowing ability some), but they want to see consistent work during the last several years.

Welcome to BP Catherine. As you can probably already tell, BiggerPockets is a great community with great resources for a wide range of real estate investors, but I think you will gain the most from engaging the community (I know I have). Good luck to you...see you around the forums.
