Post: 1099 Rents for a Property Management Assistant?

So I use to work for a property management company last year as a part time job in college. I just received a 1099 from them and it says that all of my pay was in rents? I was under the assumption that I would have been paid as a contractor since I just received a check with no taxes withheld. If anyone can clarify is this is correct or this seems wrong please let me know.

I am a rookie in the Real Estate Market currently residing in the Bryan/College Station,Tx area as well as wanting to eventually become an investor. Currently I do not have the funds to obtain my RE License and was brainstorming ways to gain RE Knowledge and Connections while making some extra cash. The idea of be of becoming a local personal/virtual assistant crossed my mind. I have experience in administrative, systems, and creative works and could use them to be of assistant to local investors and agents. I was wonder what y'all thought of this idea and had any suggestions or tips?

Thank you,

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what are some everyday tasks investors do that they wish they could delegate to someone else (I.e. an assistant). I wanted to find some areas of real estate that investors don’t typically like to handle that I could get good at. I was think some possibilities could be underwriting, reaching out to property owners, building systems, etc. what’s y’all’s opinions?

Thanks!

HI David,

First of all thank you for your service and congrats on starting your journey in real estate. I am new to the real estate game but do have a little insight on the College Station/Bryan and Dallas markets. I currently live in College Station and our housing market is kind of weird. We are mostly student housing and within the last 4 years have seen a lot of high rises and large student complexes being built. Honestly the market is really saturated and there is a lot of development in south College Station for single family homes. Some investors though are finding some good deals, but its just been a little more difficult since all of the development. The local government is also in a weird state as full time residents are not happy with the development and are wanting more strict building regulations for student housing. There are a bunch of great real estate agencies in town so if you need some advice on who to go to, just send me a DM.

For Dallas I know that the suburbs around the inner part of each city are really starting to turn around. A lot of investors are starting to buy up old properties and flipping them for good returns. The population is starting to push away from the city centers as more people are moving to Dallas/Fort Worth. I don't know much more than that but I know a lot of people on the forums know a great amount of information on Dallas.

Good luck!

I'm from the East Texas area and was recently driving in the car when I heard an advertisement for Renters Warehouse. I was just curious if anyone had more information on them. They claim to be a rental property seller that also does property management. Has anyone bought/used their service and what do you think about them?

Great job on the flip. I'm in College Station right now and looked it up on Century. I really like the colors you picked and the floors look great! I think you have it set at a good price for that neighborhood.

Howdy guys,

My name is Josh and I am currently a senior business major at Mays Business School at Texas A&M. I discovered BP about a month ago and deep into the BP podcast. I am not currently looking to start investing quite yet, but more looking into acquiring information on real-estate. I am also applying to the Real Estate Masters Program at A&M and jumping right into the commercial side of real estate. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any type of part-time job that would be good for a student who could maybe get some experience or just dip their toes into the real-estate world. I don't particularly mind if its for residential or commercial, but more just getting into it and acquiring knowledge. Thank you guys and I can't wait to hear from you!
