@Mark Elliott Sorry to hear your struggles, I definitely feel your pain. @John Horner is correct we did have a run in (did not close) with Hubzu. Your dealings with them is unfortunately all too common, if you search hubzu on BP you will find 100+ references in the forums and I doubt many positive reviews. All of that said I personally know people who have bought homes from them and have not had many issues. I will give 2 pieces of advice but please know that your situation and results should be case specific and I would recommend you talking with your attorney before taking action on either suggestion.

1. Contact your bank and advise them you have been defrauded and you want to your cashiers check canceled/disputed/returned. Seems harsh but you want your earnest money held by a title company that you know and have worked with since they will ultimately return your funds in a timely fashion should you, for any reason, not close.

2. Continue to play the game, keep giving them whatever they ask for and diligently try to have as much contact from their "attorney" to your attorney as much as possible. This is what they respond to the most.... attorney threats.

Again, please consult your attorney for their recommendations as there could be a variety of ripple effects from whatever you choose to do next.

Good luck

Quick update, I plan on doing this every Friday at Yogis 12-2 until....

I think The Columbus Ohio Meetup went great! We had an ok turn out of 6 guys, we covered alot of topics, made some good connections but my favorite part was right at the end. We all stood up to leave and I mentioned that the common thread between us was BP, an investor who is very active in Columbus says "What's that? What is Bigger Pockets?" We kind of chuckled at him but it just goes to show that there are others in your area who are doing the same thing you are.... Go find them and network!!

Funny you would ask that... If you have some time just Google Hank Asher and come to your own conclusions about TLO. The Last One is what it stands for.... and yes Spokeo is lousy

@Tucker Long Welcome to BP sir! Do some key word alerts so that you can catch stuff like this! Keep checking around the rest of the site for tons of info and listen up on the podcasts if you haven't already.

@Shawn Price Thanks Shawn!

It will be nice to meet you both and I know of a few folks not on BP who plan on attending... anyone else out there thinking of coming to out to the Columbus Ohio meetup?

Hopefully this finds everyone well!

I know it's hard to make everyone happy with a time and location for a meetup but my goal here is to meet with anyone willing to take time from their day and come network. I dont want anyone who sells mentoring or guru style promises, I am looking specifically for those individuals who are doing any form of real estate investment full time and can commit to growing a Columbus meeting to a regular event. If you dont do real estate full time you are still welcome to come! What I am hoping is that those of us who are able to consistently meet can, together, choose a different time or location if necessary. The event will be virtually agendaless, we will do quick introductions and keep talking.

For now we will meet in the back room of Yogi's 3880 Hard Rd in Dublin close to Sawmill Rd. I will be there from 12-2 on Friday's beginning this Friday January 23rd and there is currently no cost to attend.

So if you need a recap this free event is held in the back room at:

Yogi's Bar and Grill 3880 Hard Rd Dublin Ohio 43016 from 12-2 beginning 1/23/15

I will be going there, even if its by myself for the first few... who is coming with me?!?!

@Allison Leung

Why is it that many of the unanswered posts already have answers? Ive seen a few recently and even my own from a couple days ago here

@Vernon Powe Welcome to BP, there is alot of great information on here just jump in and start reading... also set up your key word alerts!

As to your question it seems like there is some information missing that will need to be answered by you.... Is this a risk tolerance that you can handle? Are you asking if this is a good deal for you? (cause there isn't someone on here that could answer that honestly)  Are you seriously going to make your first rental investment based on a Zestimate? If the market changes at all in the next 6 years will you be able to sell and recoup your entire retirement investment?

We appreciate your service and I think its great that you want to use your hard earned money to invest in real estate and if thats what you do I hope it works out great for you. This may be a good deal but I think there are a bunch of other questions you need to know the answer to before you find out if this is a good deal for you.
