@Christopher Eckerdt have you considered investing in REITs or through online real estate investing platforms? Less of a hassle and much less upfront capital.

@Matthew Perry totally agree with using platforms similar to these companies to easily diversify your portfolio especially when you start thinking about correlation. Let me know if you want to talk in detail about it; I'm Chief Investment Officer of a REIT based in NYC.

@Omar Khan great points. I was asking more about residential real estate -- should have clarified. I've been in the REIT space for a long time and there hasn't been much innovation on the data front in resi real estate. There are a lot of new companies like cherre and reonomy. Curious how they've directly impacted people's real estate investing decisions.

@Matthew G. One or two funds like ours, a LOT of big data, there's a VR company next door that does pretty cool stuff and another one that uses AI for real estate viewings. Some are pretty well-seeded and have a private office, others don't. 50% institutional suits, 50% creatives/engineers.

So much innovation happening in the real estate space. I work in a co-working space in NYC and it's mostly composed of real estate startups all with a different bit of an edge. Very exciting times.

I personally have not invested with Roofstock but I use investor junkie and listen money matters for reviews. It's usually pretty solid. Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Co-working has become a crowded space in NYC -- it's important to focus on a niche aspect that clients can't get from powerhouse WeWork. Might help to speak with commercial brokers? They tend to know neighborhood stats you can't find along with off-market deals.

Best of luck!
