I don't think we have true 'war zones' like Cleveland or Detroit, though there are a few areas  where I do avoid buying. When we start looking again, Goodyear Heights is on my list too.

Thank you again and I'm excited to finally meet you and several others next week. I agree, there are definitely cities that have a lot higher crime rate than our good ol Akron. I don't have anything against Goodyear! It's a very inexpensive area for the size of houses you get, which leads to a lot of possibilities, however you're looking at some very old houses that could need a lot of work. It's a very interesting trade off!

Welcome back to the good ol' OH-IO! I am close to the Akron/Kent area too, I actually received my undergrad degree from KSU!

Always happy to connect & chat with other locals.

& good luck on acquiring your rental! What areas/location are you looking to invest?

Hey! That's awesome! I am loving the Kent area right now, it has fast (enough) roads in the surrounding area and it's small town enough to not feel the constant feeling of being crowded like I felt in Arizona.

I'm looking to invest in the Akron area, though which actual area I'm not sure. Do I invest around Goodyear where I can get a lot of house for $30,000? Somewhere a bit nicer? It's always a toss up and tons of research to do.

@James thanks!

Hey Aaron, thank you. It was a long drive and most tiring, but beautiful. I would like to offer my services to the members of this community. I feel like I could be the handyman a lot of Akron investors have been looking for. The right price, quality work, able to work within a budget and the most important thing; I show up when I say I will and I can prioritize jobs with tight deadlines.

Thanks for all of the information. While I am from Toledo I don't anticipate investing there at the moment. Right now my focus is on the Akron area as that's where I live and honestly I have more faith in the area.

I am interested in getting in on the Stow meet up. Ill add it to my calendar now. It would be nice to meet some like minded people!

Bad contractors give us all bad names. I am a handyman and I am part of a large group of Handymen across the country and there is always a constant supply of complaints about the "fly by night" contractors who are there to get your first 1/3rd payment for the job then disappear. I can't believe people do business like that and I couldn't imagine doing that myself.

However you look in any industry there are tons of bad eggs. Realtors, Contractors, Maids, PMs, Real Estate Investors and so on. For the same group that I mentioned earlier, there as just as many posts about bad RE Investors and Realtors asking for complex work for beer money type pay.

It is all about vetting who you work with, on all sides and then spelling the terms out clearly in a contract that is a win/win and not slated one side or another.

In my opinion she is worried for a reason. If this is the woman you want to spend your life with; sit down and have a real discussion with her about her worries and where she thinks you both are. Listen to what she says and try to understand her before responding.

My wife thinks I am crazy when I talk about how many rentals I want and what it would look like once they're all owned free and clear. However she is all about encouraging me to keep chipping away at our current debts to allow us to allocate more funds to our rental purchase bucket to really get started.

Hello everyone! Several months ago when I joined I had been living in Arizona and I just finished my move to Ohio so I figured I would post a new introduction with updates.

I am Jeremy Lewis and I was born and raised in Toledo Ohio. I met my wife in 2011 and at the end of that same year I moved out to the Akron area to be closer to her family. I spent the next five years learning the Interior Home Remodeling trades with a local Tallmadge company before starting my journey as a cable installer which had me travel to fourteen states in three years. During that time I had moved to Arizona with my wife and at the end of the third year doing cable installation I left that company and started my own business as a Handyman.

Eventually we tired of Arizona and made the decision to move back to Ohio. Some of the factors included the housing market, the multitudes of friends that we missed dearly and the color green.

My plans for the future is to rebuild my client list to get money flowing again so that by the beginning of 2020 we can purchase our first rental property. We are hoping to pay cash for this property and use my experience to fix it ourselves and rent it out using a property manager leaving us with extra funds going directly into a bucket slated for more rentals. I am hoping that by the end of 2021 we will have a half dozen properties, and over a dozen by the end of 2022.

Thanks for listening and I am glad to be here in the community as well as back in Ohio!
