Money is not the problem with education. The city of Atlanta spends over $13K a year PER STUDENT and have some of the most dismal schools and education performance in the country.

There are several symptoms of the education problem but it all basically comes down to a lack of competition. The teachers union fights very hard to keep competition at bay and verifiable accountability out of the classroom for students and teachers.

Look at what is taught in school now compared to generations ago. You have high school seniors and graduates, some who voted yesterday, who don't know how many Senators a state has nor how many House representatives their state has nor why the number varies by state. The government schools are no longer preparing our youth to be good stewards of our Republic, they are indoctrinating them to be "good and obedient citizens".

Wouldn't the privitization of schools simply lead some to getting no education at all, if by accident of birth, their parents couldn't afford it? I don't think removing free education is a solution. But, then again, perhaps you mean a different kind of competition that isn't fueled by desire for profit.

I agree with Tim, real estate is largely based on local circumstances.

I agree with you in principle Mike, but how would we teach people to achieve great things for themselves without a larger budget for education wrung from American tax dollars?

Also, I think this is a great question!

Things get pretty hairy around election time. There is always plenty of foul play, voter intimidation and misleading voters.

True, but the prospect of owning property in a college town also means that your property will most likely hold its value and/ or experience steady appreciation. One way to get around the damage that a student might cause might be to raise the security deposit.

I would say that if you can make this investment, definitely do.

Tim, the founder of the Weather Channel is not really an expert...I am well aware that he believes Global Warming is a myth, but being a weatherman really doesn't give him immense expertise on this subject. I don't trust his opinion over a single environmental research scientist.

Also, I find it hard to believe that the majority of the scientific community (except for a small faction of Scientists who are continually recycled through Fox News and YouTube documentaries)

Many of these scientists are that are featured work for Washington think tanks funded by Exxon mobile....The Biggest Company on Earth....several such as Dr. Patrick Michaels have stated that they recieve funds from Exxon. I have been taking challenges from people to give me names of Global-Warming skeptical scientists and 80% of them have been bankrolled by energy companies, (most principally Exxon)

(I am at a public computer right now but I will get you documentation on this issue in particular).
Also, many people, such as Al Gore, have profited through hype about global warming, but many are simply doing their jobs....such as the good members of the vast majority of the scientific community (all over the world).

Its hard for me to believe that the majority of the scientific community could be bribed into this one....

Could you get me some documentation on this?

I mean is Greenpeace bankrolling everyone? Is Al Gore? This is a national thought event so presumably it would have to be some sort of international cartel.

I have talked to the people of the National Center for Atmospheric Research and they seem like people with integrity...

Notice how this is being put out by NPR. It will be interesting to see if corporate media outlets pick it up.

Tim

An interesting article, but this seems to be a fairly strong conclusion from just one single article. The article gives no specific indication as to where the measurements were taken....I could see temperatures varying depending on where one might choose to experiment.

Plus, on the exact same page, I found these potential confirmations for the existence of Global warming. So, this one article really doesn't confirm or deny anything about this serious issue I am afraid.

Also, on the National Center for Atmospheric Research's web site, they confirm that global warming is real AND caused by Human Carbon Interference....

Now I don't know why they would be lying about this, but I would go out on a limb and say that they have the greatest expertise possible in this field. So, I defer to the experts...
