Kiwasoki is right. Education just prepares you for a job, where you pay high taxes first and then spend what is left. Also, college tuition is out of whack. The system isn't broken, its doing what it is designed to do: Keep people working for life. Now a days student loan debt is bad debt as job security and high salaries are not guaranteed.

I went school for 2 years, quit, worked for 2 years and then went back to a tech school for 2 years (graduated) where I paid mostly cash. I wish I would have NOT gone back to school and spent the $10,000 I had saved up, but rather invested it. I live pretty much debt free now, but my salary does not justify the means as I come out $400-$500 ahead every month. No complaints, but there is a better way to go through life.

Hi Dawn,

My only interaction I've dealt with in this was bartending. Using pen and pad to communicate is perfectly fine. I guess just have important questions written down ahead of time.

Chelsea,

I attended my local REIA meeting in November and found it somewhat intimidating. Don't let it scare you. If you feel intimidated just stick it out, even if you don't happen to talk to/network with anyone. (There's always free food/drink). Im in the exact same boat as you.

I had planned to attend a local REIA meeting last night but certain circumstances prevented me from being able to attend. This is a once a month meeting where beginners (as well as pros) can network and in my situation hopefully find a starting off point. I have business cards all ready but was not able to attend and may not have this type of meeting until January. Any suggestions on where to look for contacts/help.

Thanks

it wasn't the first paycheck I've ever received. Ive been in the job world for 7 years. I just started a new job after being laid off for a few months and I honestly was better off on unemployment. How messed up is that?

I just received my first paycheck from a job I started 2 weeks ago. The lousy pay that got hit hard by taxes is even more motivation to pursue RE.

Just curious what your first deal/property was. How difficult was it? How inexperienced were you? What was learned?

I fear keeping my job and accepting that this is my life. A few failed real estate ventures does not scare me.

2600 gross. $1000 net estimate after tax insurance mortage etc. Well maintained, and fully rented with long term tenants
