@Jerry Stanford Well stated. I went to a 3 day guru class that opened my eyes to REI and excited me to pursue it. The $34k price tag for follow on training was a bit steep so I went looking elsewhere and found BP. I have since read a lot and listened to a lot of podcasts but have as yet really found the information that I really need to "get started". I'm not running back to the guru with my credit card but that is one thing that they offer is some hand holding to get you going that I have not been able to find here on BP or in my local meet ups... yet. :-) I've met some terrific people so far and maybe one of them will end up being a sort of mentor for me but for now I am learning, trudging along and hoping to ink my first deal with or without one on one assistance.

We have a BP meet up in Des Moines this Thursday Feb 18th at 5:30PM at Wellman's Pub on Ingersoll.  We will be in the meeting room.  Come and meet other BP members.

Also listen to the podcasts and read the free books and other resources BP has.  There is a ton of great learning opportunities that cost nothing.

Welcome Gracen, We have a BP meet up in Des Moines this Thursday Feb 18th @ 5:30PM at Wellman's Pub on Ingersoll Ave.  We had a great turn out last month, it's a good place to start making some local contacts.  I'm not sure if there is anything in Ames.

Listen to the podcasts and read the free material available.  Lots of good information in these two free resources.

Welcome to BP.  Some ideas for building your network.

Setup keyword alert for your city and Iowa.  You will find other investors in your area posting and you can introduce yourself.

Ask around and see if there is a BP meetup in your area and also check and see if you have a local REI group.

Being in Sioux City you might also want a keyword alert for Nebraska and maybe even South Dakota.

Once you've connected with some local people get together for coffee and get references from them.  Be active and don't be afraid to talk to people, share what you know and ask questions about what you don't know.

Welcome to BP Jon.  We have a pretty good Des Moines presence on BP.  We have a meet up the 3rd Thursday of the month.  You can get signed up for the notice by joining the Google group dsmmeetup.  The location for Feb has not been determined yet.

We meet the third Thursday of the month at 5:30PM.  The last time we met at Caribou Coffee on Ingersoll but there was some talk of finding a different place.  Set up  your keyword alerts for Des Moines and you should be able to find out the next one.  There is also a google group I think it's DSMmeetup.

We decided to stick with the third Thursday of each month at 5:30.  Location TBD.  There is a Google group you can join to get notified. DSMmeetup is the group.
