Post: I found an abandoned house in my neighborhood. What can I do???

I had an experience with a vacant home in my neighborhood. As soon as I found it, my mind shifted into high gear and all of the "what if?" scenarios started racing through my head. It looked like it was neglected but not terrible. I took some pictures, found out who and where owners were and expressed my interest in the property. Within a week there were people cleaning up the yard and now the outdoor lighting comes on every night. If nothing else, at least I got someone to clean up a neglected house in my neighborhood. Moral of the story: Just because it's vacant/ugly or whatever, doesn't mean someone wants to sell it. It also doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Best of luck to you and keep us posted on what happens!!

I would dare to say that a majority of people on BP have other jobs. I'm new as well and haven't gotten first investment property yet. I'm thinking buy and hold or maybe look into "turn key" property investment.

Hello and welcome to Biggerpockets. I'm also new to BP and in Phoenix (Ahwatukee). Looking to get around some people actually doing deals and hoping to pull the trigger in the first half of 2014. A meet-up sounds cool!

Thanks so much for the replies! Cool to see people I don't know from around the country taking time out of their lives to offer advice. Although I have yet to take that next step, I've always been interested in fix and hold. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all, hearing your experiences, and hopefully meeting some of you in person one day. Going to make it a point to pull the trigger in 1st half of 2014. (My public accountability statement) Thanks again everyone!

I hear a lot of people out there saying "investing isn't a hobby". I hate to say "I don't have the time to invest" because I know there are people far busier than me who invest, and I know everyone gets 24 hours in a day. Right now my priorities have my family and full-time job ranking pretty high. Wondering if anyone out there (I'm in Phoenix, AZ -Ahwatukee) had any advice on starting out pretty slowly. I have the added advantage of also holding an active real estate license that I don't actually use for much that i could possibly put to good use. I'm just trying to brainstorm a little to get something going. Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions.

Hi,

My name is Felipe, I'm new to BiggerPockets from Phoenix, AZ. I've held a real estate license since 2008 and haven't used it for much at all. I hope to put it to good use all while learning as much about the investing side as I can. I have a full-time, completey unrelated to real estate, job that takes up my mornings and two little daughters that take up a lot of my evening.

Buy, fix, & hold seems to be the most attractive type of investing to me right now, but then again I'm pretty new.
