When the industry began syndication to third party portals sites, real estate agents had no idea the syndication business model will not help real estate agents.Those Syndication sites mislead and confusing home buyers and then extort money from honest real estate agents for leads on their very own inventory. So the question: Add your listing for free is basically harming the listing agent since the leads the listing agent deserve to get are taken away from him/her.

According to the NAR, in 2013, Realtors sold homes for more than 40k than for sale by owners. I have always thought to buy from people selling without extensive advertising and to sell through the MLS.

50% from all sold transactions in 2013 were not listed in the MLS. 14% from all sold properties in San Francisco in 2013 were sold without using a real estate agent . That number doubled in 2014 to 28%. The need of a real estate agent will not disappear overnight it is process that takes time like anything else, but surely you start seeing it all over. The MLS is a different subject and for a another discussion.

As technology gets smarter and consumers are more educated the need of a real estate agent nowadays in selling and buying real estate becomes a big question. That means that the commission paid to real estate agents is in a very high danger.This is a question that many sellers and buyers have in mind. 

We all need an insurance company for our vehicles, for our medical and for our general insurance needs. We cannot insure ourselves and save the money we pay to those insurance companies.

So the question is what is the meaning of being a licensed real estate agent while in reality there is no real need for a real estate agent services to sell or buy real estate.
