Hello Community,

Curious to see how many people here rented before they got into the real estate game? I’m wondering how big of an impacted it has made on your decisions as a landlord? I rented before too (5 years) and believe it can help me make more beneficial decisions for both parties involved. Simply wanting to see what everyone else’s thoughts were on what they experienced and if you think being a renter made you a better landlord overall?

@Nick Barlow that is what I’m thinking. To be able to use some that money now would be tremendous.

@Anthony Gayden yes, if I plan to go forward I am definitely going to sit down with a fidelity advisor to go over everything. For the loan option how much did you take out and how much were your monthly payments?

@Sam L. Definitely looks like a way to speed up the acquisition side of things. Since the stock market has bounced back and I’ve made a little back (as I switched to my stable growth bonds to large cap blend stocks near the bottom) I thought it might be time to look at using it for RE. Same thoughts as well on your end?

Is there anyone here with some advice about using your 401(k) to purchase an investment property? Anything that you would do differently or just advice about how to handle it? I only have about 35k in it so it may be awhile but I thought I’d start researching it before it came time to use some of it.

Thanks for all the replies everybody! Yeah, I figured the BiggerPockets team would do a great job of keeping those people out since they go the complete different route and stand by a set of morals.

BiggerPockets has a huge following and is very well known throughout the investing landscape. With so many people looking to invest so much money overall it seems like it would attract its far share of shady individuals looking to take advantage of people. I know most are genuine and honest people looking to better themselves but there are always those that want to take a short cut and don’t care who or how many people they hurt along the way.

My question is have you personally ever ran across this and what is your story?

Post: What would you do with 20k?
