Welcome! I am from the area as well. I currently have two rentals in Lakewood and just getting started.

I believe the best way to learn is to just do it. Unless there is something on the line for me, I am not going to be willing to invest my energy to learning about it. Some people say that is a bit backwards, but for me I know I will learn quicker.

Let me know if I can help in any way!

I found him on next door actually. There are a few on there that were being recommended and I called a few until I found one I like. He now does most of my maintenance - outside of painting because I can do that!

I would find a local handyman - if you want I have a few - that would do vinyl. I had a garage in Lakewood wrapped with white vinyl and it's perfect.

A potential tenant texted me this morning asking if I would accept $500 flat rate a month for utilities if I kept them all in my name. This is much higher then what they would be. Should I do this or will it turn out that they will just run everything so I end up paying anyway?

James,

Nice to meet you. I live in Avon Lake and my rentals are in Lakewood. I see your truck all over the place!

I am toying with the idea of getting my real estate license to learn more, but not sure if it is worth the costs.

Hello everyone! I am new here after being introduced to the podcast a few months ago. I think I listened to about 20 episodes while renovating my newest rental and I'm hooked. My name reason for joining is to learn more about real estate and start networking.

So far, I have done all of my learning by doing! Over the last year without much knowledge, I have made a few private investments as well as bought two of my own rental properties in Cleveland. I have had some (beginners) luck as well as TONS of learning lessons. But I am not letting the mistakes get me down - my viewpoint is there are no mistakes as long as you learn from them!

My background is internet marketing but I am looking at real estate as a side hustle for now and potentially one day a full-time operation.

I am looking forward to learning, growing, and meeting some new people!
