Hello everyone! I’m thinking about purchasing a vacation home on the Jersey Shore. I was considering Wildwood Crest, Ocean City, Long Beach Island/ Manahawkin.

I was just curious if there are any jersey shore investors here. And would love to hear some of your experiences. Good or bad. And if you would do it again, or recommend it to others.

Thank you!

@Nancy Bachety. Thank you for your reply and suggestions. Saugerties looks like it could be interesting as well from what I read. It feels like I’m slowly crossing over from well thought out into over thinking and analysis paralysis! Hoping to make the leap soon. Thanks again!

Thank you for your reply.  I did a quick search into sullivan county and there are some nice looking properties.  I'll probably take a trip up there this fall to see if I enjoy vacationing there.  Is there a specific lake you know of up there that performs well or just the area in general?

Investing in the smokeys makes total sense and is something I was heavily considering.  I spoke with Avery Carl about that and is something I most likely will do at some point.  The numbers certainly add up.  There were a few intangible factors that lead me to focus my search locally. Some of them are, the ability to take a spontaneous trip and not having to travel by plane.  I like the idea of being able to stay in my own home and not having to worry about hotels booking up, raising rates, noisy neighbors, etc.

I'm thinking buy the first one as a vacation home, get the systems in place, practice using these systems and then make the leap into the out of state investing.  I guess I want some experience before I jump into the out of state investing space.

Sorry, my original post got cut off.  I just updated it.  But, basically I was just looking for a recommendation on a good lake, town, where I can start my search.

Hi Everyone, I've been reading this forum, reading books, and listening to the podcasts  for about a year now and this is my first post.

Situation: I'm a full time RN with a family.  I own my primary residence, that I gut renovated and did almost all of the work myself.  I have excellent credit (over 800) The only debt I have is a small student loan and my mortgage.

What I'm looking for: After tons of thinking, analyzing and saving, I'm ready to buy my first investment property.  I am looking to purchase a small house or cabin on a lake somewhere within 3-4 hours of NYC.  Closer is ok.  The plan would be to furnish it and rent it out as a STVR, and have it for personal use as well.  I would most likely use it for one week in the summer, and take some spontaneous trips when there is a vacancy, as I would like to maximize cash flow.  I'd be happy to buy something that needs cosmetic work (New flooring, kitchen cabinets, appliances)
