Thank you for the answer @Krista Goodrich

I would love to invest in the Daytona Beach area, but have been hesitant in what areas to invest until things become a little clearer on the legal side.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

@Marc Middleton

I have looked and looked at property in Daytona Beach and see a lot of properties that intrigue me, but I see as many negatives as I see positives. I see all kinds of places within a few blocks of the ocean or even ocean view that are under 300k. I just have a hard time justifying a purchase that would be primarily for short-term rentals if the city is looking to further regulate them.

Furthermore, the beach side community has been in limbo for the last 20+ years and can't seem to figure out how to fix the crime and homeless issues that plague an area that could easily become one of the better vacation destinations in Florida.

For those of you that are familiar with the current lawsuit in the Daytona Beach area. How do you see it ending for the short-term rentals? Are they going to be further regulated or do you feel the city will back off and allow for more, or existing, short-term rentals to be permitted?

I have been trying to follow the events of the lawsuit from afar, but was hoping some people closer, maybe even involved, might be able to give some details as to where they believe this might be heading.

Thanks,

Dave

Post: can you come up with $400 in an emergency

I can gladly say that I could come up with $400 if I needed to, but many of my friends and people I know could probably not do the same. A majority of the people that I know are spending all of their money on experiences or luxury items vs saving for their future.

I read this article yesterday and it just blows my mind that my generation believes that they can retire with next to nothing in savings.

I'd first like to give my prayers to everyone affected by the recent string of hurricanes on the southern states.

My question is simple. How do other investors, especially those local to the affected areas, plan to help these areas? I know that investors will have a place in the recovery process, I was just wondering what everyone feels that role will be.

@Shawn Ward Awesome Job!

I was a little hesitant about the yellow in some of the earlier pictures, but the finished product came out great! Congrats on the offer and I can't wait to see your next flip!

@Anthony Angotti

I live very close to Pittsburgh and have been watching the "investor effect" that has been molding different areas of the city. However, do you see the mayors new housing proposal to fund housing and his attempt to push out, or limit, investors as a stabilizer or a hindrance to the growing Pittsburgh economy?

It seems like just another way to garner to the needs of the lower/middle class with hand-me-outs and a ploy to get re-elected. Just my 2cents.

Hello fellow BPers! I wanted to rack everyone's brains that braved the waters of entrepreneurship while starting their investing careers. For those of you who avoided the "Rat Race" and ventured out on your own, how did you do it? Where did you start and how long did it take for you to find your own lane?

I just feel that it would be beneficial for everyone to hear each others stories as to how you got to where you are now!

James Carlson I would more than likely buy in Florida or Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It depends on my current job situation and where I end up. As far as it having to be your primary residence, what is there as far as triplexes and renting out the other two units while living in the third? I feel like there are a lot of possibilities with Airbnb that no one is taking advantage of.

I've been looking into this more and more and was wondering what other investors thought of using Airbnb and whether they felt it could work or not. Airbnb provides the freedom to book renters for any period of time and at a rate that you set. In theory, wouldn't you be able to make a significant amount above what a regular rental property should?

I understand that every area has different regulations that might prevent this and that Airbnb also takes a percentage, but you can still rent for $50-$200 a night or even more.

Any thoughts?
