I recommend sitting down with your family and communicating it as best as possible. There may be pushback, but as long as you communicate that you're willing to take the risk!

Investing in real estate is absolutely a great decision. You should for certain utilize your VA loan! The best way for you to get started would be to purchase a duplex, or if your partner is comfortable, a four bedroom home and rent out one of the bedrooms. The VA loan will help you get into a home for 0% down and only about 2% of the purchase price in closing costs. That is an INCREDIBLE program and you should do that!

I am looking to potentially start a business through STR of an Airstreamer or tiny house of some sort.

I’m wondering about the price of buying land, getting it zoned for a property, and hooking up electrical and septic tanks. This would be potentially Big Bear or Joshua Park.

Has anyone done anything similar to this and would be willing to give insight into their experience?

I am wondering if there are any local metro-Detroit investors that I can connect with to discuss any tips you may have to give. I grew up in the area and I'm looking to start my real estate investing journey back where it started. I'm looking for light rehab homes that I can execute a BRRRR strategy.

What are some benefits and downsides of investing in metro-Detroit that you might not find in other parts of the country?

Lol.... No offense, @Diane G. but you sound out of touch. The wear & tear is subjective because you could pick two tenants that absolutely destroy your place versus three tenants that keep it tidy. I think other people have better answers on if this could be discrimination, but my point is you can have three people share one bath.

I am a young professional that moved out to Boston out of college for work. I wanted to save money on rent. I lived in a 3 bedroom/1 bath with my roommates (three people total). Wow... yes... we shared ONE bathroom. It was never a problem and yes, we kept it tidy and clean.

Better than the projects I grew up in as a kid when my family of four shared one bathroom and struggled to pay the bills.

If we see a decline in rent prices in urban areas, I am trying to figure out where the money would go. That is the opportunity I am trying to catch.

Recently I had a deal fall through at the last second. I was disappointed. Maybe it could’ve been a blessing in disguise with the uncertainty in how working from home for corporations will impact real estate.

I’m revisiting my investment strategy and thinking about how rental properties will be changed. Airbnb’s founder/CEO had a segment on CNBC discussing how travel has changed forever. He is seeing a shift in longer stays on the platform. We have also heard about how people are shifting to renting in rural areas to have a lower cost of living.

I have worked from home for the last two years, but my girlfriend didn’t start doing so until covid. Once we knew she could work from home indefinitely, I asked, why don’t we rent an Airbnb at a home near a beautiful nature site and work out of there for a week. Which led me to think, could buying a rural lake property to Airbnb out be a good investment strategy for the future?

I’m looking for any input, whether you’re an airbnb owner (how has your urban/rural property changed?) or if you have a hypothesis of how the real estate landscape will shift?
