Regardless of how you take the mortgage, you'll probably have to take title in both your names.  I've purchase 2 homes, both with only me on the mortgage.  In both cases my wife and I hold the titles in common.

Hi all,

I'm a new investor from Northern Virginia (Fairfax County). I currently own one rental in my home town of Jacksonville, FL. My goal is to have at least 5 in the next five years.  I've begun volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to gain more confidence in DIY improvements.  I'll offer myself as free (Saturday) labor for any experienced DIYers who might teach me trick or two.
