Wow! Yeah some people have nerve. They should be thanking you for helping them avoid a forclosure on their credit.

Day in and Day out I get people calling me for help. They want to buy a house. I have them send me a credit report and although I'm obligated to help I can't help wonder what these people are thinking. Back to back collections and late payments to date. So WHY? Why when it is obvious that a person cannot manage to pay on time payments on a car loan for a couple hundred dollars or less than $100 on a credit card, do they assume they can be responsible enough for a 200k + loan? I offer them a tie frame of when we might be able to get there situation straightened out and they demand it get done sooner like they have room to negotiate.... One lady yelled at me because she had already given her 30 days notice.... like it was MY fault she chose not to pay her payments and destroy her credit. I just don't get people sometimes. First of all... if you cannot make your CURRENT payment.... you have NO business trying to buy a home.

Needed to vent, I can't stand getting yelled at, especially when the person doing the yelling shouldnt be allowed to breed let alone purchase a home..... who tries to buy a home with a 438 mid fico anyway?

My house faces a huge wetlands reserve. I get to overlook the water and wild geese all day from my office. The back of our house faces a large pond. The birds fly back and forth. The poop... is no laughing matter. The rain helps. :)

Actually thats not true, AU accounts are still a process being used to help boost credit scores. I think you are refering to FICO08 which has been talked about for years but has not been implemented yet. I know for a fact it still helps credit scores as I just added my younger brother to three cards of mine because he only had one tradeline of his own. Last week his scores increased dramatically.

Originally posted by Michael Walker:
The practice of AU (authorized user) is one we used to actually teach in a credit repair seminar we ran for mortgage companies and auto dealerships.

The scenario is very simple- a spouse, sibling, or friend would add you to their account, and as the account was reported each month on their account, it was reported on yours, too. And, as time went on, it gave you something to build on. A great little tool.

Then once the bureaus figured out the scope of the practice, FICO modified their models, so it no longer has the scoring impact.

This was not just because of the common AU practice, but more likely the huge growth in the firms offering the trade lines for a fee. You see them everywhere- "Buy seasoned trade lines- only $1000 each." "Instant trade line history" "6 years of business credit history- only $10,000", etc. Sorry, but if you really check, the previous poster is correct- this will not pass the fraud sniff test.

If you put someone on an account for the express purpose of reporting on a credit report, report them as an AU, and they are not (under the old scenaio, if you added your brother, even if he didn't have a card, he was legally authorized to use the account) you are walking a thin line.

The FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) specifies what can and cannot be listed in a consumer credit report. It goes on to list the do's and dont's, including the false and deliberate reporting of information.

This would be a good way to get into a lot of trouble. Imagine a borrower who purchased 3 trade lines to help him qualify for a house. He then loses the property, and in the ensuing audit Jim Bob Bank discovers he bought the trade lines to artificially pump us his score. Can you see how fast the bank would sue you for fraud. Not to mention, that it's probably a criminal action depending on state law, too.

No, there are other- legal ways to fix and boost your credit scores.

It is raining, but it's washing the bird poop off my car so I'm okay with it. :)

Well Truthfully basing your decisions on a program (FICO 08) that has been talked about for years and still has not been implemented makes little sense. In order to Help a client you must first get them into the home then help them rebuild their credit. I agree that removing soe ites and adding a few tradelines is only a temporary solution. Although banks are getting wise to authorized user accounts, they still help improve the scores while your clients rebuild their credit. Educating the client is the most important aspect of repairing their credit. True they could go online to dipute their own items but online isnt going to educate them on how their credit works and how to use their new credit cards properly as well as step by step guidence for an entire year by a credit expert to ensure they don't do something damaging to their credit due to lack of knowledge.

David. I agree with you. Thats why it is important to change those bad habbits by educating them. Most people who have neggative ites on their credit report DO have inccorect items and are being taken advantage of by collection companies who are ILLEGALLY reporting. This could be due to statute of limitations or even teroristic scare tactics. Most people who have collections have some they don't recognize. It's important that they get good help in determining not only HOW to fix their credit (because it takes much more than just removing the bad) But also how to keep good credit. Remember that although you and I may be able to read a few websites and determine that we need to change a few habbits, most of the world needs a bit of hand holding. Does anyone here really have any clients other than few and far between that get things done wihtout you hounding them?

However Harrison.... You are right... soe people are what we call a sinking ship. You can't save everyone and it makes little sense to waste time bailing the water out when the ship is going to sink no matter what... Trust me. I turn people away if they are a lost cause.

You'd be shocked at some of the people that I am asked to help. They get sent to me 2-3 months behind in all their current responsibilities and are trying to buy a house. It's not called Credit Magic and What kind of person tries to buy a house when they obviously can't hadle a simple monthly credit card payment..... it's just an example of why this economy is failing. However.... Credit repair is not just for Bad credit. Given the market it may be difficult for someone with even a 700 to get a decent loan. They need in most cases..... rapid rescoring of their existing accounts and removal of unnessisary and illegall inquiries. There are many many aspects to credit repair. not disputing neggative items. If your dealing with a company who does JUST that than YES you are wasting your money.... Credit repair is much more complex than the bottom of the barrel industry sharks just out to make a quick buck.

I agree which is why I would suggest blacking out such information. I think it is great for everyone to use a credit monitoring system. I posted this to advise everyone of the two best ones I recommend having seen nearly all of them at one point or another. My husband uses Costco.com and I love using Truecredit.com Actually truecredit.com lets you refresh your score every 24 hours.

I'm eant out of your profession Taz. Proof of waht errors? What questions? Your rantings are so vague and unclear I'm not sure what you are asking. I apologize but I don't check this site every day. You are a Real Estate Investor trying to give advice about credit when you are not a credit repair specialist. You claim you used to have a company yet you never cleared up what your service included. All the advice you have offered up was either irrellevant or way off base and could actually end up hurting the client. I really feel you truly believe you know all there is to know about credit bt here you are asking me questions about the different types of credit reports different companies pull when I'm here to help people improve their credit. So I get it, in the past you probably started out as a car sales man and realized the reports were different than when you were slingging loans. Good for you. It's irrelevant to what I do for a living because I'm here to help people improve their credit not confuse them with nonsence which by the way your still only half right. True a car dealership pulls a different report but your personal information is still going to reflect good credit if you follow the rules.

Who are you replying to? I was talking about mortgage brokers and why shouldnt a real estate agent know what a clients credit score is? Do you suggest they waste months of their time trying to find a home for these clients just to find out they have a 500 mid score and no bank will help them? I know you think in the case with a real estate agent, they should require a pre-qual first however LO's tend to pass these out like candy without ever pulling the report. Why would it hurt the consumer to have the real estate agent know what their credit looks like before wasting time and money trying to help?
