Total beginner question I know, but I can't rap my head around this for some reason.  Is a real-estate market the entire country or the entire state or entire city or how does this work? Are real-estate markets just broken down from country > state > city > area/neighborhood?  I'll hear people talk about cities like the Boston or Atlanta real-estate markets, and then there's also the real-estate market for the entire country of Canada and the U.S.

@Roy N.

I don't really have any resources that can tell me what REI is like in Canada, so it's nice to hear the differences between the U.S and Canada that's not about finances, taxes, etc.

I did a little thinking about what kind of value can I provide to a experienced REI. All I could think of is time, car, lawn/snow remover guy, and eventually when I complete school...web development. I'm also thinking of becoming part of a property manager company and gain hands on property manager experience. I'm not sure however, what kind of qualifications or skills I need to get hired as one, but I'll call each one in my area tomorrow and get the run down. Once I get an idea of what I would need to develop, I'll go develop those qualities, come back to the same companies and get try to get hired as a property manager.

@Samuel Sedore

I'll pass on REIN Canada. Maybe I'm young and impatient, I'm not really sure, but I don't think I can just sit still working for a paycheck for a unknown amount of time. You could say working for a couple of years would build enough capital, but life can be a pain. Just last week I had to pay $1000 to change all 4 of my tires on my car. That will set me back a few weeks of income, which will set the time I start REI by a few weeks. Stuff like this will keep piling up and piling up till eventually I'll be waiting several years to start my REI. If I can provide value to other investors and form partnerships, we can share the finances for deals, which could mean less time working and more time taking action with REI.

I live in Manitoba, Canada, where no or little money down finance strategies and wholesaling are illegal. I currently want to start out in REI, so I have no hands on experience with doing any REI deals, flips, etc. I'm building capital by paycheck every 2 weeks, but it's a slow process. I've also joined a few REIA groups in Winnipeg, and one of the group meetings is November 30th.

I want to work for other REI for the purpose of developing capital, applicable knowledge + experience and relationships with the people involved.

I've read on here that offering to drive for dollars, clean a investor's property for free, or been their personal assistant for free would be of value.  What else could be valuable to an investor in exchange to learn from them?  Or is what's valuable to them specific to the problems they're facing?

Such as one investor needs a painter while another doesn't.  If you have experience been a professional painter, you could paint the interior and exterior of the house for free in exchange to learn from them?

I've just read recently that wholesaling is illegal in certain states in the U.S.  What about Manitoba?  Is wholesaling really just an unlicensed broker?

I've been looking for a game called Investorville and I can't seem to find it, nor get in contact with people at CommonWealth who know anything about it.  I found this post here, that says they shut it down on August 2014.

Does anyone have any information on finding this game?

For you to even consider partnering with a REI who's never made a single deal or had a property in his life, what would they have to bring to the table?

A great deal with great numbers?  A large sum of money to invest?  I understand that each person's situation is different and always changes, but I want to hear your criteria!

I would be interested in our little REI group gathering. It's always nice to meet new people, regardless if they're new or experienced.

@Bolawa Fadoju

I'm not sure what to expect from the bus tour, but if this is your first time too, then I guess we're both in the same boat.  Looking forward to chit chatting with ya!

@Aric Stewart

Oooooh it's great to see another person from Manitoba! I actually live in East Selkirk, so it's only a 30 minute drive to Winnipeg. Maybe we can go for a cup of coffee one of these days and just talk about REI and our passions?

I definitely recommend signing up for these meet ups below. Each are REI groups who network and share knowledge with real-estate. Their group meet ups are only once a month unfortunately, but they're still a valuable resource.

So far, I've been to Every day investor group and I plan to attend one of their bus tours this Saturday. From what I can tell, we all hop onto a bus, and drive to property to property, while understanding what it feels like to be in and around a property that's in the middle of renovating. The bus tour I'm going to is full so you won't be able to join, but I think they have one every month. So if you're interested in getting the next one, here's their website below...

I also HIGHLY suggest starting with the Ultimate beginner's guide to REI. That guide makes me think and engage with REI so much, that I'm still on Chapter 5. Let's just say that developing a business plan and power team is a very detailed process, but eventually I WILL get through it! :)

@Roy N.

You will find lots of useful information and experience here. While most of what you will read and hear is universal, keep in mind that in the areas of finance, regulation and taxation there is a U.S.A. bias in the content on BP. However, there is also a couple of dozen active Canadians here who can field any Canada specific questions you have.

Interesting you say that. I heard from my mentor that low and no money down strategies are actually illegal in Canada. Is this true? Is that book about little or no money down that's on this website useless to us?
