Thanks Mike and I agree with you in that you have a right to post whatever you wish. However, it just says a lot about a person's character who cannot respect others. I dont mind a debate and I welcome any perspective from the other side, but if you can't do it tastefully and respectfully, then your conversation is not worth carrying. So I am respectfully asking you to please remove yourself from this topic unless you can contribute to the actual intentions that were named. You should consider starting a topic that requests people to post their negativity toward the State of the Union address.

Hey Mike, thanks for sticking to the requests of the topic...

He also mentioned Jobs 129 times so based on your example, he thinks more of finding jobs than he does himself since he said it more.

Without any personal attacks towards any party or poster, I am interested in hearing what (if any) everyone LIKED about the State of the Union address. I know some key points that the Republican side was wishing for were touched on. Whether you believe he will follow thru or not, is not the question. Let's say everything he said was golden, which elements would you support or think might actually help the economy?

Why is that when the obvious is pointed out, it becomes counter productive?

I will go with your idea of looking to the future and I will rephrase... What are the Republicans proposing for the new bill? What are they looking for it to do and say... long story short. Please provide any evidence of your response.

I am extremely close to this issue. Being the Finance Director, I have to help, along with HR, chose the Health Care Insurance we provide our employees, annually. We have 91 benefited employees and I approved the monthly premium check just this week, $60,000.00. How sad is it that, as a non profit, we have to give ten cents of every dollar we receive just to provide Health Insurance?

The current Health Reform legislation does NOTHING to address COST. It's main focus is to force every one to have health insurance. That's like putting more chickens in the hen house after the fox gets in, hoping that more chickens will scare the fox.

Until Health Reform legislation STARTS with Tort Reform, Monopolistic Practices and health care availability, health reform will not happen.

I have no choice but to agree with you in on the things you said above. I havent had a chance to read all 2000 pages of this bill, but I have read a lot. So I cannot accurately confirm that the bill does or does not provide for a cheaper health insurance plan. I do know that it addresses pre-existing conditions. If that were addressed, I would be able to shop elsewhere and elsewhere's prices are much lower than my company provided plan.

Since the republican side are stating that they agree health reform is needed, but a different proposal needs to be drawn up from scratch (which I am ok with), why didnt the Republicans address this issue over the last 8 years and propose a reform that suited their needs, when it was their turn to make changes?

I am so sick of Welfare, Section 8, FHA, AFDC, Medicare, Free Education, etc... If you want it, pay for it. Why is that so hard for folks to understand? If you can't afford it, that is NOT the taxpayers fault.

Hey Mike, we all know that there are people and families who are lazy and abuse the programs you mentioned above.

However, there are many of us that would love to save more and put back more. I work hard, I work every day, I make a decent salary. Unfortunately, health benefits, which I purchase every month eat up my check allowing me just enough to pay my bills. By bills I mean the bare minimum with no luxuries such as cable, phone & internet. I would love to put more aside for my retirement however health care premiums are sky rocketing every year. I would love to shop around however I cannot because my wife and one of my children have pre-existing conditions.

The health care system needs reformed to lower rates and disregard pre-existing conditions. Whichever party can make that happen will get my vote. I gaurantee you if it were more affordable, more people would purchase and the welfare systems would improve.

I voted for Bush and supported the majority of his efforts. Eventually, I was ready for change. I will still put Bush at the top, but I didnt hear anything from McCain that lead me to believe things would get better.

Whether President Obama ends up at the bottom of the list. I can honestly say, I am starting to agree. Not because I think he is acting poorly or not trying. I just think with yesterday's upset, nothing is going to happen or get passed and that will linger on his resume for many many years.

I am thinking I would rather see a President take measures and fail or have poor results, as opposed to both parties never agreeing and holding the bills up and never passing anything.

However, I still think it is scary and potentially dangerous to have one party rule the house and nothing ever gets questioned. I'm glad that yesterday happened, just for checks and balances sake.

Welcome to Politics!!!

I will continue to feel that is racist statement to make because the fact remained that many white Americans crossed over as well because there was a feeling that Obama is qualified and is intelligent enough to carry out the acts of a President.

So if all of the black people voted because he was black, does that mean all of the white people did not vote for him because he is white? Absolutely Not! But you cant say it is one way for one person and not the same way for the other person.

If this were the case, then would I be fair in saying that Brown only won yesterday because 87% of MA is white and all of those white people want BO to fail? Again, Absolutely not! it isnt fair because it isnt true.

If all of these people wanted to vote just to contribute to the first black president cause, then President Obama would not be our first. Remember, there were other black candidates who ran prior to this election. So I guess the white people were racist because they didnt vote prior black candidates in?

Remember when expressing personal "ideas" and personal opinions around to look at your perspective from the other side to make sure the same doesnt apply to you.

It is unfortunate that there are people who consider race when voting. But on the flipside, it was great that more Americans (of all races) were able to not consider race and vote for the better candidate of the two.

I still stand strong that Mitt Romney should have been in office and sure hope he gives it another shot.

I voted for Obama and I really wanted the healthcare reform so this is a bitter pill to swallow but I can graciously accept being knocked out in round 1 of 2010.

I clearly think that Brown ran a much better campaign. My perception was that the Dems were too confident that they could count solely on history to repeat itself and it was an auto win for Dems. They let their guard down.

Also, I think that Coakley was viewed as another Palin. I dont think people felt she was qualified for what they needed. She was not a great candidate in my opinion and Brown was an excellent candidate for the Republicans. If I were voting in MA, and healthcare wasnt on the line, I would easily have voted Brown over Coakley.

I agree that a rebuttal against health care reform was also a factor. However, I feel that had a better democratic candidate been in the ring and provided a good campaign, then the Independents would have heard the other side/a better side of the reform and voted in favor of it. In other words, MA heard a one sided story in regards to the reform and made their decision on that.

Lastly, the best person won and hopefully the Dems take a closer look at what is going on and hopefully we will see things put on the table that make both sides happy.

Do you have thoughts on what you feel needs to happen now?

Congratulations to those who wanted the MA Senate race to end with Brown filling the seat!

With this, what does everyone foresee to happen now?

Do you think both parties will reach across to each other and make decisions that both parties agree on?

Or do you think for the next three years both parties are just going to butt heads and nothing will be done, fixed, addressed and/or changed?

I'm still holding out hope for some health care reform. I sure hope they can come to an agreement that will lower health insurance. My fear now is that they will just argue with each other, never agree on anything, just to say Obama did nothing. However, I am going to keep hope alive that the Republicans will still address the issues at hand with the people in mind and not only for political purposes.

We have to admit, it is going to get very interesting. I love our country and again the people have spoken. Regardless of if your/my preferred party won or not.
