I think it’s important to note that macro trends (headwinds) impact one’s bottom line, but they don’t define your success.

good properties with uniqueness will continue to be in high demand. One can’t simply invent beaches and Mountain View’s for their property.

Not that we’ll ever know, but I’m curious as to what percent of property owners tried to get in as a get rich quick scheme, vs people who genuinely have long term ambitions to be in real estate and host. 

I think there was 23% YoY supply growth over last year, perhaps 5-10% would be more normal. So as a very crude approximation I think we may see ~15% fallout in supply, but that’s just a guess obviously

I’m a fan of awning.com. Pricing starts at about 15k for whole house, inclusive of design and quality built to last. You start before closing and they deliver and setup so you can get going immediately. They even include utensils. 

We didn’t end up going with them only because we bought fully furnished

What are your thoughts on a property manager for your STR, vs self managing?

Prevailing wisdom says to start out self managing.

I'm great at hospitality, but I hate confrontation, and frankly I procrastinate in a bad way when it comes to calling a handy man for my own house. The thought of a text from a disgruntled guest on a Saturday night just doesn't sound fun to me. Is anyone HAPPY they hired a property manager for their STR?
