Mark,

I was actually thinking about your post as I was driving today and listening to talk radio about primary results in some states. I thought about if it is better to become more political or more informed. I'm leaning towards more informed. My Mother was politically active in Philadelphia when I was young and also after she moved to NJ when I was in my teens. I remember trying to argue politics with her and why I was voting the way I was. She totally shut me down by asking key questions as to why I was voting that way. I had no answers and it has shaped my thinking ever since. I was embarrassed by not having the answers but felt more empowered at the same time because I was determined to get the answers. I wanted to find out what mattered, really mattered to me and what was in the best interest of my community. I think that it can take some time to really determine that. Your views and outlook will change overtime. Take your time, become more informed, and try not to ride band wagons as easy as it might be. I like some Dems and some Repubs and refuse to follow herds when it comes to who I vote for.

Good luck!

Thanks Victor and Joe. I see the post by others asking for mentors and I've felt the same way - I've wanted to ask for help on the board. While we have a great deal of support here, I feel looking locally for a mentor may be a better idea for newbies.

You have plenty of time to do a search the candidates. Let's face it, we vote based on what we think someone will do for us or in our best interests.

I plan to either call into a campaign office or stop in to get an understanding of where the candidates stand on issues that are important to me.

Personally, I try not to vote for someone just based on party affiliations.

Good luck!

Tom,

What's a PC nik, race baiter? What exactly would you do with the educational system? I hope not indoctrinate them with all this nonsense that you seem to drool over. I listened to some young conservatives speak recently and I am so glad the future generation of conservatives are moving away from the thinking of your generation.

Tim,

Who do you believe will make up this new conservative congress? What are some of the ideas that you've heard to make you so confident?

There are some Repub views that I like but overall I am truly disgusted with the party.

Thanks Charles. I had become very busy with work and school a few weeks back and was traveling a lot. It was a huge help to have my partner take care of everything and f/u with our mentor when I was overwhelmed. Even more important than having a mentor, at least for me, I definitely see the benefit of having a support network going forward.

What scares me most, especially since we are focused on becoming a society living in constant fear, and this should be #5 is the fact that our future generation is ill-prepared to tackle any of these situations. Our future generation is not only ill-prepared but plain stupid because they are caught up in self-indulgent "look at me I'm at Starbucks right now" phenomena of FaceBook, Twitter and the like. So finally when they do get to the point where they need to be socially and politically conscious and make a change they are neither smart enough nor creative enough to find ideal situations/alternatives. They grasp the same archaic ideas of their fore fathers - the ones that didn't work: fear mongering, nationalism and hate.

Post: How Do You Set Your Individual Real Estate Goals?

Hi Dan,

Seriously this is my last post for the night; this site is addictive.

I met a guy last week at a meeting (green like me) and he told me what he wanted to make in real estate for the upcoming year. It's a very ambitious goal and I like his courage. It's not impossible. He is 20 years old and he reminded me of myself at that age. I did wonder whether his goals were based on anything besides dreams.

Sometimes people have lofty ideas and dreams and that's not necessarily a bad thing but when you can not back them up with something else then you can end up very discouraged when your dream is not realized.

I am all for having dreams and goals but it is important for me to base them in reality at the moment. So I would set my goals using the same parameters that you do.

What's my local market doing? Do I have enough capital to get in and how will I get in? What's my exit strategy? If I set a goal to buy 5-10 properties, can I actually do it and if so, how?

Like I said I'm green so I have a lot more to figure out.

Bryan,

I read the link and was wondering how long the payroll holiday will be in effect? Do you know what has been proposed? Like I said, I hear about it one minute then nothing. Have you read anywhere that most economist think that it will encourage more industry hiring? It will definitely put more money in our hands but I would be one of those who would save it and not actually spend it. Still, I can see people spending more - that's what we do.

I probably haven't paid enough attention and my rough search is not giving me anything.

Thanks in advance!
