@Madeline Nguyen this doesn't sound like the best idea as it is a very expensive price point to buy an investment property with 20% down that you may not end up moving into or you may not like that area.

@Mackenzie Plunkett Aloha. I'm from the Leeward side of Oahu. Let me know if you have any questions about things here. I even know a few Plunkett(s). House hacking is great, but you'll need to have a good size cash reserve and credit here. Median price is $1million, but you can find cheaper homes outside of Honolulu

@Tiffany Kho you really have to watch if the market changes with new laws. The government here are trying to pass some extensive laws. It would make more sense to STR in an area you are more familiar

@Christopher Dizon Hawaii is more of a equity play and awful for cash flow. If you are leaving the island then you would definitely need to pay for a property manager. Also hopefully you accounted for Capex, Maintenance, and vacancy. More than likely you are further in the negative. It would be a better play to keep if you were 💯 going to move back in the future.
