These days with the imports from China, you are able to get extremely inexpensive quality cabinets, the type you werent able to get as little as 2 years ago. The quality on some of the manufacturers are anywhere as good as the domestically produced cabinetry.
Haveing said that, as there are many cabinets to choose from you have to pick one that fits for rentals. Though we sell about 70% of our cabinets in the white shaker style, I would strongly discourage you from doing that.
You need an attractive cabinet that can stand up to minor abuse. No cabinet can withstand major abuse. Therefore, keep away from painted cabinet doors as they scratch in no time. A Stained, mid-tone wood cabinet is probably the best as it is very forgiving with scratches and stains, and can be easily touched up. A dovetailed drawer is a must, as the first part of a cabinet to fall apart is the drawer.
I hope I was able to help you a bit.
