Hi BP!

Introduction: My name is Aryka Ortego originally from north Louisiana, currently living in NYC where I work as a real estate agent. My brother, Landon, and I are diving headfirst into wholesaling. We are networking and learning all the tips and tricks to hopefully have a strong foundation to start from.

Our markets where we drive for dollars/tax auctions: Easton PA, Jersey City NJ, Staten Island NY, Ruston LA, Monroe LA, Weston (Caney lake) LA, and Hattiesburg MS.

We are currently trying to network with investors who are interested in buying in the markets listed above.
** we would also love to know of any REI meetups going on in these areas!
If you can offer any specific advice that you wish you had known before getting into wholesaling or suggestions for a couple of new wholesalers it would be greatly appreciated!

BiggerPockets community!

What would it take for you to invest in New York City and surrounding burrows? How would you go about finding a group of investors willing to split the work/ funds in order to buy a building or parking lot in the city? Is this a far-fetched idea? Is it doable? How many people out there can share their experience investing with likeminded individuals in a big city like ny? How did it go, what lessons did you learn?

I’m a real estate agent in nyc looking to focus my business in investment properties. I’m looking for insights on big investment projects. Whatever information you have I’d love to hear. If you’re interested in receiving information on the current nyc market feel free to share your email.

Hi BP community,

I’m doing research on the PA real estate market, Easton and neighboring areas. Has anyone bought a multifamily in this area?  Does anyone have any insights on comps? Any information would help. This would be my first investment property, I’m looking for a multifamily that I can rent, so I’m looking for a market that meets my criteria ( within 3-4 hr. driving distance from my current home in Staten Island NY, Looking to buy 10%-20% below market, new investor friendly property, and at least 15% roi).

Also looking for recommendations for real estate agents in these areas and financing strategies.

Thank you!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond to this post! This was very help, already I’m researching some of the points that you all listed. Would like to find a niches that works for me but I’m not sure if that just comes with time and experience or if I should pick something that works with doing business in nyc. Also if anyone has book or podcast recommendations, aside from BiggerPockets, would love to hear them.

Hi bigger pockets community,

I’m excited about officially becoming a real estate agent with Keller Williams NYC. The real estate community is a very inviting bunch however it can be very competitive. Looking for anyone who has words of wisdom, advice, or recommendations for a new agent who’s eager to learn more about the industry.

Thank you for your insight and advice!
I would rather have a multi family property than a SFR, so it's good to know I'm not limited. When I research sub markets I'll have a better understanding of what to look for now.
If I didn’t work in New York city then ny definitely wouldn’t be my first choice for real estate investing for the first time. Depending on what I learn about the market in the next few months and how Covid plays out will be the deciding factors on where I’ll be investing. I’m originally from Louisiana so that might be a market I look into.

Thank you again for your time!

Hi BP community,

I’m new to the real estate investing world and I’m here asking for advice. I’ve been on BiggerPockets for a few months trying to figure out where a good jumping in point would be and decided to pursue a househack to start off. I still have a long journey ahead before I make a purchase, I feel there is still a lot I need to learn. I chose the house hacking strategy because it would give me the opportunity to learn hands on, would allow me the possibility of living in ny almost rent free and would be a good place to start seeing where my weak points are so I can build a team accordingly.
my questions and concerns:

Has anyone done a househack in NY, what sub market did you choose and why?

I’m in the process of building my criteria list. When it comes to househacking, specifically in an expensive area, what criteria matters most (in your opinion)?

My goal would be to purchase my first property by the start of 2021, so in 5 to 6 months, is that a realistic time frame with the effects of Covid still in full swing? I’m still doing my research on how Covid is effecting the ny real estate market. Any insight on that would be great.

If anyone in the ny area is currently doing a house hack, or is in the world of real estate investing I would love to pick your brain. Any advice, comments, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!
