House Hacking in New York

Hi BP community,

I’m new to the real estate investing world and I’m here asking for advice. I’ve been on BiggerPockets for a few months trying to figure out where a good jumping in point would be and decided to pursue a househack to start off. I still have a long journey ahead before I make a purchase, I feel there is still a lot I need to learn. I chose the house hacking strategy because it would give me the opportunity to learn hands on, would allow me the possibility of living in ny almost rent free and would be a good place to start seeing where my weak points are so I can build a team accordingly.
my questions and concerns:

Has anyone done a househack in NY, what sub market did you choose and why?

I’m in the process of building my criteria list. When it comes to househacking, specifically in an expensive area, what criteria matters most (in your opinion)?

My goal would be to purchase my first property by the start of 2021, so in 5 to 6 months, is that a realistic time frame with the effects of Covid still in full swing? I’m still doing my research on how Covid is effecting the ny real estate market. Any insight on that would be great.

If anyone in the ny area is currently doing a house hack, or is in the world of real estate investing I would love to pick your brain. Any advice, comments, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!
