I'm doing renovations at my house. The main living areas and the office is hardwood, the other two bedrooms are carpet. I'll be upgrading the two bathrooms in the house, and undecided if I should put marble look tiles in the bedrooms. I plan on selling my house in a year or two and I'm trying to add the most value. Would having tile in the two bedrooms add more value to the house? or do majority of buyers prefer carpet in the bedrooms? The house is located in Jax, FL

I'm looking at house for sale that has an attached mother in-law which is has not been permitted. What are some of the issues I can face if I become the owner of the property?

According to Haddock v. Carmody in a Florida Supreme court case, you should be fine. In summary you will lose the homestead if “entire dwelling” is rented out. Even then, as long as you are a resident on Jan 1, you can still claim homestead. But cannot do so in two consecutive years.

 Yes, but it's a bit more complicated in Florida because of the limitations that are placed on raising property taxes for Florida residents. So looking at the current property tax, I will not get an idea of how much my bill will be.

 As far as I know marital status has no effect on the exception. it's $50k married or not, but $25k does not include school taxes

I'm trying to add up all the costs for owning a home. I am looking at Cape Coral right now which is part of Lee county. As far I know the property tax rate for Lee county is 1.145% But are there other fees added to that?

say If I buy a house for $400k and it will be my main residence, so I can use the homestead exception. What would my total property tax bill be for the entire year?
