Post: Stress of relocating

Hello all, I would just like to give you my story and hopefully if any of you have ever had any experience with this you can lend some advice. I am currently enrolled in a technical school in California studying and preparing to work with Amtrak. I plan to make this my career while I save up and slowly build an investment portfolio to which someday I can hopefully do real estate full time.

My fear at the moment is relocating to a new city without knowing anyone and nowhere to live once my schooling is finished. going back home (WY) is not an option for me because unfortunately they do not have a passenger rail service. I will most likely be relocating to Chicago, Florida, or the northern east coast. it all depends on what jobs are available once I get close to graduation.

Right now I would just like to reach out and get to know some landlords in these areas who are close to any Amtrak stations

I will keep this post updated for I have just a few months left or so until I graduate.

Many thanks

Andrew McIntyre

@Bill S. Thank you Bill I appreciate you helping me out!!

so i'm guessing real estate agents get the scoop on a property before it is posted online, so  i guess what i'm trying to ask, is it better to get your leads through an agent rather than a site like zillow? im just wondering because after doing some research in a few markets i see that good properties don't even last a week on the site. would having good connections with an agent give you first dibs per se?

Lets say you are waiting for your property management to find someone to fill a unit. my question is what if YOU have found someone that you think would be a good candidate, can you contact your property manager and ask them to do their magic on this certain someone and get them in the unit? I hope this makes sense.

@Elbert D. hey man good looking out thank you for the insight!

I am curious @Joe Fairless to see how your story started! I am currently 24 years old and i am going to school to be a locomotive engineer, my starting salary when the time comes will probably be around 70 to 100k a year and my goal is to just save and save for a few years even if it means living in a studio and eating ramen noodles haha but if im being realistic i hope to reach financial freedom by age 35!

@Account Closed I am currently in school, but once i can come up with the funds i have thought a lot about house hacking with a similar situation like yours. maybe get a 4 plex and do the whole FHA route, I was just curious of what you had to do to get that. I am extremely new to this so bare with me please. what initial steps had to be taken and what kind of credit score do i need to be aiming for before they take me seriously, currently i think im around 520 :(
