Post: Finding contractors on Craigslist

I have been looking for contractors in the Austin area and a couple hours ago I finally decided to put an ad on Craigslist. Is this a good way to find good contractors? I've already received about 15 emails but most of these people don't work for a company. Should I still consider them?

@Michael Siekerka,

I can seem to zoom in on the picture but once I actually get back over there I can take some better shots.

I'll try to get that pic up soon. That area is developing so the houses around there are being torn down and rebuilt with garages.

Dell, I would love some pics. My E-mail is [email protected]

So if I hire out do clothe contractors usually let other people help? Yes I do want to flip it quickly and make some cash BUT I'm also doing this because I want to be involved.

Should I do all the remodeling myself (lay flooring, painting, update kitchen, etc) and just hire a plummer, electrician, and someone to look at the roofing, siding, etc? With the help of friends and family of course. Or should I just hire my GC? This will be my first flip and I don't have any real experience doing these things but I'm a fast learner. Also, I don't plan on flipping more houses later on...just this one.

Any advice?

Hopefully the picture uploaded. This is the house that I plan on flipping and as you can tell...it needs work. I have two questions...is there anyway to change this brick color or switch from brick completely? It's really ugly but I have a feeling it will have to stay.

Second question... should I build a garage or rebuild the carport? As you can tell there is a very rundown carport and I would like to get rid of that but from my understanding, a 1 car garage will cost at least 15k.

Any suggestions?

I asked this question in a different area....not sure where it goes. How do I find an investor and what are they looking for when choosing who to invest in?

I do appreciate your advice but I would still really like for my pervious questions to be answered. Like I mentioned before, my great grandmother has the right to sell or not and whether she sells to me or to someone else it's in her rights to do so. After it's purchased, other family members have no say, it would be mine. If they get upset, though I don't foresee that, knowing my family and all, then that's really on them. You can't please everyone, all the time and something has to happen to that house...it can't just sit there unoccupied forever.

If anyone can actually let me know how to go about getting an investor and possibly what they look for when choosing who to invest in, that would be greatly appreciated.

So let's say that that I buy the house from her using money from the investor....is there still a family risk? My grandmother and I have briefly discussed buying the house, instead of trying to convince her to let me flip it, sell it and then give her a cut.

Thank you so much for your advice. As of right now, no one know's about this except for my grandmother. After I get everything figured out, we will be letting everyone know what we are doing. There is one person, outside of the owner, who has a say in what happens to the property and she's the one who will be making the decision. Let's say, everyone is fine with this....whether or not I buy it from her or let her get her cut after the house is sold.....How do I find an investor?

I'm not trying to cheat anyone, my great-grandmother has say in what happens to this home and everyone knows that, so if she decides to sell that's what will happen. I do plan on letting everyone in on this, I'm just trying to get information right now so I have a solid case.
