Thank you very much for the reply.  I will have to take a look at some things @Elizabeth Colegrove has posted to see get a good idea of what I am looking at in the future!

Hello everyone. I am new to the site (and to real estate in general) and will likely be moving to the Northern VA/DC area next summer. I am trying to get an idea of places to look or people to talk to about foreclosures in the Alexandria/Springfield/Woodbridge area. The reason I am looking mostly at foreclosures is for the ability to gain equity as I improve the home. I am hoping to renovate the home while I am living in it and increase the value to increase the rent I can ask for when I move again.

Through the minor research I have done and friends I have talked to thus far, I know the market is very fast paced.  You need to find what you want and buy it ASAP before someone else does.  That being said, I want to get as much knowledge as possible now before it comes time to actually go buy the house.

I will be looking for a single family home, preferable with more than a postage stamp for a lawn as I have a couple big dogs, so advice on better areas for that type of house would also be appreciated!

Also, any advice on good agents to work with would be awesome as well!  Thanks in advance, folks!

Hello, everyone.  My name is Adam and I am a new member to the Bigger Pockets world.  I have been listening to the podcast for a while now and I wanted to get more involved in the forums and networking.

I am new to real estate as I have only purchased one house; my residence. However, I am a military member who moves every couple of years so I am hoping to start purchasing more and more as I move about.  I currently own a house and Georgia and will hopefully be buying a house in the National Capital Region sometime next year.  I will be renting out my house in Georgia and hopefully will find a good deal on a foreclosure (trying to save some money and put my minor handyman skills to use) when I get to the NCR.

I am hoping to learn a lot and make some good connections with folks to enhance my abilities and knowledge on investment properties and how to utilize my continuous moving to my advantage.  Thank you all for your time and I hope to talk with some of you soon.
