Post: Use an opportunity to discuss REI with an investor wisely

I have an opportunity to discuss REI with successful business man, who is also an acquaintance through mutual friendships.

I had been hesitant to reach out in the past, as I felt as though I might be bothering him but recently I changed my tune and decided to "ping him".  He responded and seemed more than welcome to talk and help in any way he could.

He's very busy, so once I am able to engage with him I want to use the time wisely.  He owns properties and has had success.  Therefore, I am eager to learn how he got started, what avenues he chose and why, resources he could provide, and any general advice.

I'm interested in how others have used opportunities such as these as a leaning experience?  Would you approach it differently than what I've outlined above.

Thanks!

@Eric Army

Initially I was thinking SFR, but I've strayed from that a bit and now considering small multi's or condos. Condos, worry me a bit due to the HOAs and the potential need to take part in the association so I know what's going on financially.

I haven't researched a variety of ares through the White Mountains, just the ones I've been exposed to in my life, which are the Conway and Franconia Notch area. More work to do there.

I've only been at this 3-4 months, so I haven't purchased yet.  However, I hope to have something officially "under my belt" within the next year.

Thanks,

Claudio

I plan on attending the 10/26 meet up.  As a newcomer, this seems like a great opportunity to meet folks and further my education.

I'm sure this is a real noob question, but I'm curious as to how the refinance part of this strategy works?

Assuming you are able to refinance for 70% of the ARV, how do you utilize the funds from the refinance to pay back your original lenders (e.g. private/hard money) and start again?

I feel like I'm missing something very obvious in this step?

Thanks and appreciate your patience in this learning process.

@Jacqueline Carrington Thanks for the welcome!

My wife has been considering getting licensed to help towards our endeavor and potentially a career change for her as well.

I understand there are some considerable costs to get started, can you tell me where I might find the details on costs to get certified initially and then ongoing?

Thanks again!

@Travis Lloyd Thank you for the details.

I won't be able to make this Wednesday, but hopelessly the next meetup?  What should I expect at these get together's?  Networking, shared experiences, deals?

Considering I'm just getting off the ground, I want the exposure but I'd like to any pressure from hard sells.

Again, not sure what to expect, it may not be like this at all.

Thanks,

Claudio

Hi Dan,

I'm mostly looking at the White Mountains region in NH for potential vacation rentals, although I suspect that the competition is probably fierce.  I've spent most of my summers there as a kid and adult, and I just love it.

We'll see.  I'll have to spend some time in the vacation rental forum and ask some questions about that area.  Other areas of interest are NC/SC. Would like to retire there some day.

Trying to get keep my feet on the ground and learn as much as I can.

Just wanted to say hello to the folks here in the CT forum. I've been a BP member for approximately 4 months, but had been absent due to other distractions.  No excuses, I just didn't make this a priority,

I'm back now and want to meet some of my local investors and those who have been in the REI game.

My interest is multi-rentals, and vacation rentals.

Would love to hear from anyone out there who has experience in either or recently got started.

Thanks!

Claud
