Notecamp Day 2 - "Amortization Afternoon"

Dear Mom and Dad,

I woke up super early today and couldn’t get back to sleep thinking about my camp yesterday. I didn’t get a chance to send you a letter last night because I was busy with a craft project so now is a perfect time to tell you about my day.

Scott and Chase had us up bright and early and let us know what was going to be happening for the day. Having a schedule is great – you know how I am with planning my day! Chase talked a bit about marketing and GUESS WHAT??? Yours truly was mentioned!! I’ll tell you more about it when I see you.

Our first activity of the day was with Aaron Young. He has a company that helps people keep their businesses protected by setting them up properly and doing the right things. By keeping their business protected, they keep their personal lives protected as well. There are so many things that no one tells you need to do when you set up a business. It was eye-opening.

Then Chris McClatchey came to tell us campers about how to buy real estate with 0% financing. His presentation with jaw-dropping and the stories he told us about his deals were inspirational. Lots of the campers were struck by the bombs of knowledge he was dropping. And he started what I will call the “Afternoon of Amortization”. It’s so powerful and my geeky side came out.

Another fellow geek, Quincy Long admitted that he loved spending time calculating amortization. He had a lot to tell us about investing with self directed IRA’s and HSA’s. Both small and large deals. He explained some creative ways to structure deals when you don’t have a lot of money in your IRA and also that you don’t have to hit a grand slam in investing, that four base hits are just as good.

Just before coming to camp, I was reading a book about investing in non-performing second mortgages so when Fuquan Bilal did his presentation I was all ears. He invests in second mortgages and he gave me some more things to think about with regards to them. I definitely see where they can fit into my investment strategy.

The next presenter, Joel Markovitz is someone that I have heard speak before but always learn something new from. He talked about servicing your notes after you purchase them and all of the services that his company can provide. There are definitely a lot of things to think about when choosing a servicer.

I’ve also heard Alex Goldovsky speak before however he has great amounts of knowledge about title and taxes and like Joel, I always learn something new. I’m pretty good with reading title and knowing what other things to look out for after all the short sales that we negotiated but it never hurts to reinforce what you know and maybe pick up a new golden nugget. His company is awesome and provides a great service to us note investor campers.

It was a full day of presentations and I did some craft projects in the few minutes we had between speakers. I really can’t wait for today to begin and what we are going to learn today!

And yes Mom….I am eating and putting on sunscreen…

Love, Michele
