You can't get it unless you ask

You can't get what you want unless you ask. I mean it's pretty self-explanatory, but maybe it's not. I am not talking about asking directly, I am talking about putting what you want out there into the world. Yes, that may not work if you're going to ask out Michelle in high school but setting goals and sharing them does help.

Something crazy has happened to me lately when it came to putting things out into the universe. One of my goals for this year was to start an Investor networking group in Leominster. I set up the to-do list but was falling behind on this due to everything else(or at least that's the excuse I'm telling myself. I bought a flip project from a wholesaler in the area and as I normally do when I meet a new investor in my area, I invited him out to lunch, my treat (look me up if you are in the area. I LOVE TO TALK REI). We hit it off and kept texting about REI. Weeks later we were talking and he mentioned he wanted to start a networking group in the area. I told him what a coincidence me too but I'm way behind on it. Here comes the 3 degrees to Kevin Bacon…. Ok, it's not Kevin Bacon but it's a 3rd degree. This wholesaler had just joined a brokerage who… wait for it…. Is looking to start a networking group in Leominster, but can't find anyone who wants to run it. Well Well, I know someone. We all got together and worked it out and now we have Kevin Bacons' infrastructure and my friend, and I run the meetings. I didn't have to set up the back-end marketing, branding and everything and Kevin has a presence in Leominster.

This story is one of the ways I've seen that if you talk to people about what you want and are willing to push towards it then sometimes things mysteriously happen that make this happen for you. You may meet the right people, have the right opportunity pass your desk, who knows, just be open to receive (Go giver reference there).

The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

  1. Hi Jason, I'm a big believer in asking questions about anything, mainly its investing. I just got into REI, my buddy put me on to a syndicate deal. I used some money from my HELOC and got in. Now I want to scale, but this same buddy is suggesting that I get in buying and renting myself, mainly long term. Now, question I have is, based on the numbers, I'm getting about $150 per door a month while as the syndicate gives me about the same (after payment to the HELOC) but less work, why is it better to go with buying and renting vs syndicate?
