@Matt M. - I have that special assessment insurance on mine too. A whopping $8 for mine, I think, so I think I'm getting robbed. You probably know this, but for others reading, the thing to bear in mind is that in only covers special assessments that are enacted due to a specific event. Like if there's a hail storm and the HOA needs funds to cover the insurance deductible on their end or along those lines. It doesn't cover special assessments enacted for neglect or deferred common area maintenance.
Imagine the sadness I incurred when one of my HOAs gave me a $2500 bill for what was essentially neglect and my HO6 (I think that's what it's called) didn't kick in. :-(
