Hurricane Irma Damage --Claims process starts

Sadly, the entire ridge cap of an expansive copper roof blew off during Hurricane Irma.  Water comes in through the venting at the roof ridge and runs under the copper.

I called my agent, who is still out of power, and got an auto-responder saying to contact the insurer.  The insurer's webpage says to contact the agent.  Nice loop we've got here already.

I've got a commercial property policy with Lloyds of London; the property was going to be vacant for a six month renovation.  It has wind/hail coverage and says "replacement cost."  I got an additional flood policy.

I figure I will start a discussion for those of us who are making our way through the new process of filing a claim for damage during the recent hurricane season.

Comments, suggestions and discussion are welcome.  I'm not sure how to navigate these insurance waters, but plan on posting back as I learn. ~Kerry
