Is driving for dollars completely pointless?

I've seen people on this Wholesaling forum replying to questions and many of them have a philosophy when it comes to wholesaling. The philosophy is that this is a numbers game and that you need as much data as possible and as big a list as possible because this will give you the highest chances of getting deals. You need to consistently market to a list of as many qualified property owners as you can get your hands on.  If thats the case and you need to scale as much as you can, does this make d4d obsolete? The reason i say that  is because it takes a long time just to get a few hundred distressed properties d4d if youre solo. Should d4d be thought of as a cheap way to get your first deal and get your foot in the door? should it be thought of as a method that should be done in combination with buying lists and mailing to them and cold calling? can it be looked at as a way that some wholesalers use as their ONLY method of lead generation and is that even viable?

i know ive been posting a lot lately so please excuse me. im just a newbie with a lot of questions. Thanks BP!

thank you

@Danny Leyva the question is time vs. value. Many investors that I have worked with have full time jobs and time is limited. So perhaps something to consider is what are the cost benefits? I agree with others on here who have stated that unless there is consistency and follow up, it could very well be pointless.

When my wife and I got into investing 18 years ago, we both had full time jobs. Driving for dollars was tough. We varied our routes to and from work hoping a few blocks out of our way could yield better results, it really didn’t. It got frustrating. Sometimes you need to get frustrated to see a better way and I did.

The first thought was hiring someone to d4d for us. Teach them what to look for and pay them for their time. This started the whole mathematical wheels spinning on how to gauge the success. Then, I had an epiphany. Don’t hire people, enlist them! So I tapped into my existing network of lead generators; my landscaper, pool guy, UPS driver, Schwan’s food delivery driver and mail carrier. In their daily driving I described to them what to look for and for each lead they brought me that converted to a sell, I offered them $300 cash. The first week I had 10 leads and none of them panned out. The second week I had 35 leads and two converted! It was amazing once I paid out $300 to each of them the leads seem to never stop.

Don’t rule out anything until you take a step back and look for a potentially alternative idea to a traditional method.

Best of luck!
