Deceased owner & family member doesn’t know mortgage company
Hi everyone,
So I found a distressed property that needs help in a developing city, the owner of this property listed on the county assessors site is deceased. I got in touch with her son via phone call.
He says that he doesn’t know the mortgage company’s name, they’ve changed their name quite a few times and they are located in Utah.
I wasn’t really sure how to respond to that, I apologized to him about his parents being deceased and expressed interest in the house while letting him know that I would be making a cash offer and that if I find anything else about it that I will contact him about it (because he doesn’t have any info)
I just haven’t came across this before. Have you?
If the owner is deceased and family members don’t know the name of the mortgage company what steps should I take next?
Thank you 😊🙏🏼

@Summer Hall Talk to the city where the property is located. If there is a mortgage owed, the bank is also on title and they will have that information. They may not be able to give it to you, but they can give it to the son if he contacts them. He might need a copy of the will to show it is now his.
