Approaching a Family Member of a Wholesale/Seller Prospect
Hello! I was just in a yoga class...and before my class I overheard a woman talking to a man about her mother and how her mother was wanting to sell her house and she was upset about it. I was eavesdropping so I could make out only a bit of the conversation, but what I basically surmised was this woman wasn't happy because her mom was behind on taxes, and it wasn't that much, but was still wanting to sell her home for a price she thought was too low.
My question is... how do you approach someone in this situation in a respectful and compassionate way but also without losing the lead? It was clear the woman didn't want her mother to sell, and I am in business to buy. So...what's a girl to do in this type of situation? How do you get past "gatekeepers" of this sort?
I also very much felt for her, it seemed like a painful topic for her and I didn't want to press her...but I think I handled the situation well, I was honest with her and told her I was starting a business buying real estate and I overheard her talking and that I didn't want to be invasive but I couldn't leave without giving her my information. Then I gave her my contact information and left.
But I'm curious to know if anyone else out there would have done things differently or added something?
