Why do sellers agree to steep discounts?

Ok, so I am excited to start wholesaling and my wife is on board and supportive, but she's having a hard time understanding why sellers would agree to such steep discounts.  For example, if a house is worth 100K fixed up, and say 80K as is, why would a seller agree to sell to a wholesaler for 50K rather than list it for 80K?  Aside from the benefit of closing quickly, no inspections and repairs, and no realtor commissions, are there any other reasons that sellers agree to discount their properties.  I get that they are in a distressed time of life, just having a hard time overcoming my wife's objections when she plays devil's advocate.  Put yourselves in the sellers shoes and help me (us) to justify selling to a wholesaler.  Thanks!!
