Cut out the middleman. Wholesale for myself?

I have had very limited success with wholesalers in the Tulsa market and have just gone into contract with my first deal from one.  I am at a point that I am prepared to buy and hold 3 - 5 single family properties a year.  Has anyone decided to wholesale for themselves and then sell off deals that don't meet their criteria?

At first, the idea of wholesaling was a turn off and a cheap way for the masses to get into real estate investing.  Now I am thinking that I can cut the middle man out, use similar techniques, keep the deals I want and wholesale the rest.
