PA tax lien sale voided, what am I owed

Jonathan Faltot
Posted

Hey there, so we are in the unfortunate circumstance where the judge has decided to set aside the tax sale after the previous owners argued the tax bureau did not do their due diligence of notifying the owners of the sale. We filed a Quiet Title which flagged this issue. The tax bureau was also filed against, but they did nothing to respond.

This my wife and I's first flip. We have a baby now in the house so it is pretty rough. Understanding the risk, what do they owe us to get the property back?

They are saying it is the price we paid for the house at the sale. Our attorney's have found case law for the sweat equity piece so we are hopeful of that. From our viewpoint they are not actually interested in the house; their attorney is saying they want money from us and we keep the house.

Any insight is appreciated.

Replied

So the county would have to void the sale and give you your money back.

Make the people an offer to keep it. Start low and see what happens.
