Best places to post rooms for rent?
Hi there!
I am looking to post rooms for rent and am wondering what are the best sites to post them on? I tried craigslist but my listings keep getting removed for some reason. I want to post to FB Marketplace too but it's annoying how you can't hide housing listing posts from friends on there as I don't want everyone knowing what I am doing. Please let me know what you think I should do as I want to start renting these rooms out ASAP!
Thank you!
Have you chatted with anyone local to your area about what's the best place to post? Facebook is great for my area, and probably is for yours too. Why are you trying to hide that you're renting out rooms from friends? They might be a great resource to find a tenant.
other ideas: apartments.com, zillow, avail.co, local newspapers, tell everyone you talk to in person that you're renting rooms. If you furnish the rooms: Furnished Finder.
@Alex Kohler
Roomies.com is where I find about half my people. The other half come from fb. I throw my listings on my wife’s fb marketplace instead of mine. And she hates when her friends ask her about the rooms I post on there. 🤣
I have seen that Zillow allows room rentals now. For our long term rentals, Zillow brings us the most leads, so try out their room rentals.
There's a company called PadSplit in our market that helps with this too. Let me know if you'd like an introduction to the local rep here.

Craigslist is getting pretty dusty. If it isn't working, don't waste your time. Are the rooms furnished?

Hi Nicole! Ya I agree, tried craigslist and got a few sketchy calls lol. Yes the rooms are completely furnished
@John Morgan I posted on Roomies.com but haven't gotten any messages. How long does it take for people to start reaching out? Anything special that I should be doing to get more leads coming in?

@Alex Kohler Roomies, furnished finder. If you use FB marketplace now you can add a second profile. I did make a profile attached to my main profile mostly because my husband sells stuff and he has no FB but I have not had an opportunity to use it. You go to account and profiles and create one, your friends don't carry over to that account unless you add them but they can see what you post publicly if they look. Also if you have a college around you may find a special posting site, ours has one just for grad students.

About how long did it take you after publishing to have inquiries? Just posted mine on Zillow and Apartments.com today but wondering if I should pay for furnished finder as I want to find renters asap
@Alex Kohler I just wanted to note for people that facebook marketplace doesn't allow a second attached profile to access marketplace. It has to be a seperate account.
On furnished finder I found people within about a week but some people say they don't have inquires in their area very quickly. I haven't posted a room on zillow but would expect it to be at least that soon because apartments it is pretty quick for inquiries. Roomies it was within days but I can't speak to the quality of the prospective tenant as they were slower to show up to view and FF I had a commitment quickly. This is in central MA
Furnished finder, local Facebook groups! Furnished finder even has a search tabs for potential tenants that is by the room. Good luck!
@Alex Kohler I have had a rent by the room home in Mesa for the last 3 years, and almost all of my tenants, and all my tenants I didnt already have some relationship with, have come from FB marketplace. I just recently rented out 2 rooms, and I had what seemed like 5-10 people a day reach out, though I will admit some were scams or what seemed to be fake accounts. I would 100% recommend FB marketplace if you haven't jumped on yet. FB groups help, but I think it adds legitimacy when they see it linked to an actual posting.
